That's a tough balance to strike, but Blaxill pulls it off brilliantly - it never feels like she's sensationalising the misogyny or assault for entertainment but the story IS brilliantly entertaining, with sweet characters alongside the nasty ones and very "normal teenage" moments of quips and banter threaded throughout the trauma and drama. A blazingly sharp, sexy, feminist thriller for those who wished The White Lotus season two was told from the POV of Mia and Lucia. The story line was a little on the far-fetched side, but I liked the constant shifting on who could have done the crimes.A review that complained that an Airbnb host talked too much might read as a plus to someone who wanted to meet new people.

After her parents separated, Alana moves home and school and only knows her childhood family friend, Esme. There wasn’t really any romance in this one, but there was a storyline concerning Livy’s husband cheating on her, which played into the mystery aspect of the story. I would have liked to have seen more of her husband Will however, I didn’t feel that I got to know him as he spent quite a lot of the story away from home on business, and sometimes came across as a bit “cold”. This was my second book by Sophie McKenzie, and I am already looking forward to what she comes up with next. This one had so much potential - two couples who embark on a cruise and one of the women disappears.

There's one part where she's trying to tell the police about an attempted sexual assault, and she's answered with "boys will be boys". p>

But this time, her husband, Blake and best friend Florence decide it’s time for a change and arrange a surprise. It was easy to keep track of characters, and no effort is required on the part of the listener to keep up. As Livy is investigating her friend's death, her marriage and family come under strain and pressure for a number of reasons.

Eager for a big score, Leo catches in her crosshairs Michael Forrester, a self-made billionaire and philanthropist. By that I mean through the storytelling, I think it hammered home the danger and injustice of it all just fine. But, after a recent tragedy, Livy finds herself questioning whether she ever really knew Julia at all. I just found my attention never held, and there were other books I was favouring to pick up instead of this one. Maybe books about British teens exposing male privilege and the reality of date rape drugs and police bias don't do well for a reason, but they should, they so should, especially when a book is crafted as well as this, deep and emotional, a mystery weaved around hard-hitting topics which YA tends to lean away from sometimes.

Livy meanwhile is in turn obsessing over an affair Will had six years previously and struggling without her best friend to support her. This is the sort of book that is best read in big chunks which will allow you to immerse yourself in Livy’s investigation. Livy is a very real character, something I found to be the case with Gen in her book, Close My Eyes, as well, and I was definitely invested in her story. You Can Trust Me is one of those books which immediately intrigued, then wrapped up with such an unbelievable plot that it left me unsatisfied. Partnering with unlikely people to solve what happened that night, and what might have been going on far longer than initially thought, Alana is shocked to discover that the truth isn’t crystal clear—and it might just cost her life to decode. It’s not a glamorous life, but it gives them the freedom they crave from the painful pasts they’ve left behind. Simply put, you started a relationship with a set of hopes and expectations that influenced what you allowed yourself to see. For me, a book can be great if the characters are interesting, even if the story is a little flawed. Trust In Me” by Sophie McKenzie, due to be released in April 2015, is a psychological thriller, my second novel from this author having loved “Close my Eyes”. I had to know what was going to happen to the characters, I had to know who was going to be safe, and I had to know if justice would be served.
