About this deal

If you are looking for a fun and simple way to introduce weather concepts to our youngest learners, this book is the one. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much this felt like a novel, instead of a series of vaguely connected thoughts. Furthermore observations about being a modern day parent, a ethical consumer (with Lizzie even ending up supporting a local subpar car service), some minor physical ailments and of course how it feels to a liberal that Trump is elected, come back. In an interview with Book Marks, Offill has said that Weather is "in conversation" with Don DeLillo novel White Noise as each book includes apocalyptic themes and humor.

building emotional atmosphere in scenes that seem innocently everyday on the surface, but low-level ominous when viewed as a whole. My reviews are honest and my opinions are my own; your reading experience may vary, so give it a read and see what you think. These seasons all are depicted with different colors in the book and are exemplified with various images. If you’re looking for weather books for kids, this illustrated guide provides your tot with an extraordinary weather adventure! This is a well-constructed book full of witty and often funny descriptions that aim to illustrate the emotional and psychological toll our time takes, both for the individual and for families. Derbyshire also noted that the novel, despite its focus on climate change and civilizational collapse, has moments of humor, like Offill's previous work, Dept. This book builds children's knowledge from understanding different types of clips to learning about severe weather events.

The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud

As my toddler becomes more independent and wants to wear that unicorn tutu EVERY DAY, this has helped her understand the concepts of weather and seasons much better with detailed depictions (she compares the leaf growth on trees to tell me what season it is). Charmingly written and delightfully illustrated, "All About Weather: A First Weather Book for Kids" makes it enjoyable and easy to answer "Why?Maybe I can stop having that dream now…the one where my brother shows up and says, ‘I can die now’”. My friend who works in hospice says don’t tell dying people they won’t be around for the beach trip, apples in fall, etc. Jenny Offill’s voice in Weather stays in your bones and invades your thought patterns long after the book is set aside.

Weather by Jenny Offill review – wit for the end times

Each paragraph is a quick impressionistic reflection on the library’s patrons, parenthood, the state of her marriage, her “enmeshment” with her brother, climate change and the state of the world — with an occasional joke thrown in.My disconnect with this book, as with Ducks, Newburyport ultimately I think comes down to the narrator’s (and I assume author’s) worldview, which in its despair lacks a faith in the future that I feel.
