About this deal

However, for this reason, feel free to read this as a sort of POV of the person looking to transition into high end audio. It is neither too closed like the Audio-Technica ATH-50X Headphones nor as wide as the Sennheiser HD280 Pro Headphones. As a counter-example for the lack of sub-bass, although light, it can still be heard, as in the track “Fracture Ray” (0:00-0:27) where very light featherings of sub-bass is present and the headphones can deliver them. For one, it's more comfortable with a lighter weight, a clamping force which hugs more, and it also stays on my head as opposed to the SHP9600 where the headphone can slide off a bit or feel like it's about to. The imaging is mildly below-average, though, as I have a hard time actually telling apart where the instruments are placed at times, and sometimes they aren't separated too well.

So yes, the bass does roll off a bit below about 60Hz, but there’s no artificial unnecessary weird mid-bass bump. The cups themselves rotate in and out just enough to get a good fit on your melon, and you’ll really appreciate the robust nature of how it can move freely but still feel very solid. The acoustic, open-back design removes air-pressure build-up on the backside of the driver and provides the diaphragm with ample space for movement. If there were any headphones that fulfilled the “It feels like air” sentiment, I think the 9500 would have to be tops on the list.Similarly, mids and highs have enough presence and clarity for our ears, but compared to the SHP9500 you might notice a bit of roll-off that wasn’t there before. They have low impedance and you won’t get enough volume when using them with a PC, laptop, or smartphone.

They aren’t good for studio use either, as the mic will most definitely pick up their leaking audio. If you are looking for headphones with powerful bass, you can consider one of these best bass headphones. The 9500 was tops on the list for 3 years until I tried the 30i, which I believe is a perfect headphone across the board. Bass is okay, with enough presence in the mid-bass to keep things from sounding tinny and lame, but if you want some serious sub-bass rumble…you’re gonna have to check out some Beyerdynamics. I can’t see this being too much of a problem if you don’t move around much, (as you probably shouldn’t be anyways, considering it is open-back) however a change of cables, for the sake of length or comfort, may be better, so keep this in mind please. However, while most likely not being as well-built as Sennheiser’s models, it still is a very sturdy build, carrying only the touch of the plastic that was used. Both, surprisingly, sounded great with the streaming from the laptop sounding much, much better than we expected. The metal headband does adjust to accommodate a number of head sizes, which is nice, and there's also some mesh padding on the bridge to cushion your cranium. His sense of humour, coupled with a knack for excellence and strict attention to detail are what allow him to stand out in an crowded industry. Everything feels that much more realistic and helps to ensure the headphones are as honest and transparent as possible.

The bass has gotten a bit of an uptick since the SHP9500, but it’s just enough to make itself known and not overwhelm. For instance, Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” sounds a lot different due to the fact that you can actually hear the subtle instrumentation going on – a concept we discussed earlier. That makes sense considering that the most common use case for these headphones is critical listening where you’re right next to the vinyl player / amp / PC, but it definitely impacts overall usability.I do recommend running Ninja/Dead Silence in your classes though as I personally cannot stand hearing the sound of my own footsteps. They make you want to kick back and analyze the intricacies in the sound, and perhaps pinpoint something you haven’t heard before. Recently I purchased a pair of shp9500 to try them out, and after burn in and getting used to it, they are my daily drivers now. These living legends are, I am sure, well known by many of you already, and although at times contested, their competence have made them an almost timeless piece.

The plastic is not as nice or thick-feeling as the plastic on Sennheiser’s 500 series or the Beyerdynamic DT770…but those both cost more.I'm not much of a believer in break-in, so take the youth of these headphones with a grain of salt as it potentially affects your own dogma. The clarity is impressive, especially with any vocal playback, but at the same time pushing through with that smooth high end. The low-end helps a lot to rein in that impression, but in songs where you can hear particularly aggressive strings, this tends to be a minor nuisance. Not only does the neutral sound siqnature let the mid and treble ranges breathe, but can supply them with considerable (while not excessive, or large) amounts of rumble and body.
