Sometimes I’ll just take a piece straight from the jar when I have sugar cravings, as a quick snack. This little green Pickle Crisp jar has been given a label indicating its content, so you can begin using it safely in your Pickle Crisp and other canning and Pickle Barrel adventures.

If I can’t get to work canning my cucumbers immediately after picking them (or when I get home from the farmer’s market), submerging them in an icy bowl of water in the fridge will help them firm up/stay firm. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the amount of pickle crisp you’ll want to add to a recipe will vary depending on your personal taste preferences. By the time I pour the brine over, the jars are not hot any more and haven’t had any problem with cracking jars, unless one already had a crack that I didn’t see. A small amount is added to each jar of pickles before sealing following the manufacturer’s directions.Keep in mind you don’t have to use ALL of them though- and the first two ideas are the ones that make the most difference… At least in my humble opinion.
