This new compilation –available as a 4CD set or 3LP red vinyl –features tracks that appears on the three original compilations, all in their 12-inch or remixed versions.

Celebrating the 80s dance floor, and celebrating NOW’s legacy – NOW Dance – The 80s; 26 12” and extended versions on 3-LP red vinyl and 4CD. Sadly with Now Dance 91, and also Now Dance 93 onwards, the series just became a set of generic dance compilations stuffed with radio/short edits. It’s the Eighties so of course the remixes are all good-to-great and they ‘respect’ the song in the way that those Trouser Enthusiasts of the 1990s didn’t. Of course the deeper into it the nearer you get to the end of the 1980s and so there’s the 12″ mixes of Neneh Cherry’s‘Buffalo Stance’ and Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’, the Extended Mix of Bobby Brown’s ‘My Prerogative’ and the Full Length Disco Mix of Coldcut feat. Now we just need Who's That Girl, Right By Your Side, You Have Placed A Chill and Do You Want To Break Up 12" mixes to make their CD debut. The first NOW Dance was released in 1985 (on 2LP and double cassette) and two further volumes were issued in 1986 and 1989. As a result, there was nothing to distinguish them from all the other dance compilations around at the same time.

This is the 2nd recent NOW compilation to include a rare Eurythmics 12" mix that had never been on CD before (the other being There Must Be An Angel) so at least THEY are doing what Sony has refused to do for the Eurythmics catalog, and I am grateful for it! The 4CD edition of NOW Dance: The 80s contains 48 remixes, while the limited edition 3LP edition (pressed on red vinyl) offers 26. If you are familiar with the originals, then the track listing, especially of CD 1, will look pleasingly familiar, starting with John ‘Tokes’ Potoker’s 12-inch version of Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ UK number one ‘Easy Lover’ before moving on to The Power Station’s ‘Some Like It Hot’, Eurythmics’ Would I Lie To You? Granted, a few tracks are edited and the odd 7" version found its way in, but for the most part they were excellent value. Bobby Brown’s ‘My Prerogative’ and ‘Buffalo Stance’ from Neneh Cherry start the run that features The Beatmasters, Coldcut feat.In 1985, NOW Music released ‘NOW Dance: The 12” Mixes’, a 20-track compilation that included the extended or remix versions of some of the biggest recent hits and popular club tracks.
