About this deal

Problem is that once someone says they saw it happen, or did it themselves, if you then state why it's impossible they will swear black and blue that you are wrong so that they can save face and not look like a bullshitter, this leads to doubt and the legend continues.

I say that although everyone knew about it I NEVER saw it work BITD, I actually tried it and found it didn't work but when you tell people they would always say "well it only works on some games". Most lighters have a black rubber ring around the bottom of the air inlet, marked with a + sign – sign on this ring. So who is going to be first to break their machine by zapping it with an unknown voltage or turning it on and off till it blows up?I don’t know what the issue is considering I’ve burped it a bunch now and never had this issue before. Also did they modify the lighters to expose the voltage and remove any safety shielding so they could apply the voltage directly to the mech? Time and memory works in flexible ways, please only post that you saw it happen if you are REALLY sure, not just a vague thought that you might have seen it happen. All lighters are manufactured using only the highest quality raw materials and include safety features such as a fixed flame, nylon body and a Child Resistant mechanism. I'm not certain it is entirely a coin mech issue - as mentioned, I also suspect the high voltage spike directly affected the credit input to the PCB.

BITD I don't know of any electronic coin mechs that were around on the games I played that this could have possibly worked on. If you want to, you can also replace the flint in your clipper and change the hexagon wheel using a nice round one from a different lighter. OK thanks for that answer Homepin, I do believe you and I know you would know how it works, but I'm a bit lost still.

Updated the post with some pics - this also worked on older games with mechanical mechs such as frogger as the high voltage confused the input circuitry of the PCB and gave credits - not always, but let's face it, those using the method had nothing to lose and credits to gain - so they were pretty persistent when word got out. You have to remember the piezo element throws out a HUGE voltage spike that jumps a gap of up to 10mm - this is more than enough to fly around inside the cabinet and affect sensitive (low voltage) electronics. I will try this out on mine and I suggest everyone else have a crack as well on there games and we can eventually see if someone can rack some credits up. Whatever the jump it is fun, it will require that you avoid falling into the void and dodge the obstacles on your path.

Also used Spacies rapid on /off technique, had coins on strings - not that successful as you lost many a coin and did a good line in coins cut from lead flashing sheet which was probably the most successful. If you have refilled your lighter a few times it can be easy for grime and dirt to build up around the gas outlet in front of the wheel.

I’ll try to use a can of compressed air to blow and clean the end of the lighter if my lighter isn’t working.

most coin mechs are very similar, surely if it ever worked people would not just use it to get free games, they would use it on cigarette machines to clean out the machine and make big money.
