About this deal

With a near reference tuning and a good suit of technicalities, the bass is one of the S12 PRO strongest points. Entirely made of aluminum, the Letshuoer S12 Pro is a revamp of the brand’s previous planar IEM, the… S12. A visual upgrade mostly as both share the same CNC-milled case, but the Pro model now comes with a deep blue finish, for a more premium look. It wouldn’t dare to say that they are bad-looking, but compared to products from BGVP, or even the latest FiiO FD11, the end-result is kinda… conservative. The midrange of both IEM’s does offer a good level of transparent and airiness, while the midrange of the LetShuoer S12 is a bit more upfront when I do listen to vocals and instruments. I was expecting something impressive with this soundstage, and the S12 didn’t disappoint me. The S12 makes its best effort to individualize every instrument and vocal. Each body of sound is given a solid position, with plenty of separation that makes the performances easy to localize. Enough dimension is formed here to create a dimensional sound environment with good height and depth. In terms of width, the S12 doesn’t quite open up as much as other planar IEMs. However, for its price, the stereo field gives the imaging enough room to display the sound elements as it needs to. The same goes for the IMR EDP and EDP Ace, again like the I3s, the EDPs have been overshadowed by the S12 Pros for me. The EDP Ace however, comes fairly close with its DD bass and the note decay probably aided by piezo, the Planar Magnetic driver, if not the design of the chamber. If you know what a character of planar-magnetics is, then you are not gonna get surprised here. S12s have that effortless, uncolored style of presentation. It’s super coherent, smooth, but not derived of information. With obvious out of the way, what is the characteristic of this IEM? Despite its characteristic of looking bass-heavy, I don’t feel it this way. It has some peaking in high frequencies, and I have had to tame it with foam tips. It gave lots of presence, but for me, it was too much. When damped with mentioned tips, the highs have a bit of smooth roll so take that into consideration, please. Overall I prefer warmer sound, as highs can be a bit overwhelming for me. Detail and resolution here are excellent in this price range, they just deliver the information to you, no questions asked. I really liked listening to some electronic music on them as they show textures very well. Hz Timeless - To my ears, the 7 Hz Timeless have not grabbed my attention as much they did others, I still believe they are good and demonstrate good use of Planar Magnetic drivers, but for melodic presentation, they did not grab my attention. Mid - that's where most of the issues come from; mids are very much recessed and thin sounding, without a proper body, synthetic. Male vocals are usually too quiet and dark. I also spotted a place in Mozart's Violin Concerto no. 4 where the soloist plays arpeggios from the G string up to the E string - the dynamics in the recording and in the score remain the same throughout the passage, yet S12 makes them variable (G string being the weakest and darkest, E being overly bright and louder). I'm a violinist and believe me, this 'Leduc' Guarneri is PERFECTLY balanced. It's such a shame how much the S12 interferes with the perfomer's intentions. The first audible difference you will hear is that the TiN HiFi P2 needs a lot more power to be driven properly, while the LetShuoer S12 is much easier to driver.Summary - I had so many mixed feelings, because of how good the S12 is at certain things and how bad at the others. Sometimes I was really impressed with the fun bass tuning and I would dive deep into a piece to really spot all of the details, but the feeling that sometimes is just not right never really went away. I don't hate it - I actually tried hard to like it, but the tuning just didn't work for me - it doesn't mean it won't work for you. I listen to classical music most of the time and prefer bass light stuff, which places me in rather uncommon target. Keep in mind that most people really enjoy the V-shaped/Harman tuning. Planar magnetic headphones are popular because of their characteristic sound, but they have been traditionally overpriced and underperforming. They have therefore largely enjoyed a life in the shade. The LetShuoer S12 comes with a decent detachable cable that is made of 128 stands of Silver Plated Monocrystalline Copper wire. Well, I’m sure I need not emphasize that the S12 Pro utilize a custom 14.8mm planar magnetic driver.

Compared to their chief rival, the 7Hz Timeless may have slightly better resolution, but the S12 Pro have a more natural timbre, superior soundstage depth, and a better fit. Also, the S12 Pro are substantially cheaper, and I much prefer the S12 Pro. LETSHUOER has hit the nail on the head with the S12. If you enjoy a bit more bass rumble and detail in your music, these will probably be a better buy for you than the 7Hz Timeless. Sensitive listeners may find it a bit too bright, but I found it to be a well balanced set for music, movies, and even gaming (with Dolby Atmos). At the current price, these earphones are a great value and a solid choice, especially if you’re curious what all the planar magnetic hype is about. Explore the various tips to see what suits your preference, as tips are as personal as shoes due to our different ear anatomies. Cable The accessories are befitting of a mid-FI pair of IEMs, and everything is entirely usable out-of-the-box. Ear tips The foam tips even come with their own case! Which Planer Magnetic earphones deliver for you? Planar drivers are extremely capable drivers and there is currently an avalanche of Planar earphones on the market. I had the pleasure of listening to the S12, the original Letshouer planar earphones, lent to me by a kind friend. Good fun! Do the S12 Pros deliver? The LetShuoer S12 shows a fairly expansive soundstage atmosphere with adequate sense of airiness, which is suitable for fairly precise positioning and separation of instruments and vocals. The soundstage has an above average wideness, while the depth of the stage is on a moderate level.

S12 Pro Review - Headfonia Reviews Letshuoer S12 Pro Review - Headfonia Reviews

The thing is, I am all about note-weight. Just (the loss) of that single thing has placed many an IEM, full-range DD, BA Hybrid or Planar into the outskirts of my collection, never to be retrieved again for any reason. Gone........Yep, the fastest way to a lower than average score at Redcarmoose Labs is missing not-weight. Note-weight, the (ultimate) thing you can’t tell on a graphical response graph! An IEM may look promising in a graph, yet disappointing in real-life. So here we are gifted with a warm demeanor full of nice bass which starts with note-weight from the bottom-up. In fact the entire signature is a love poem to that all critical note weight. Yep, get us the Pace combined with Note-Weight and it’s all over kids……..done, done, done. . Compared side by side with the Timeless, the S12 shines more brightly. The texture of bass is better on the S12, even though the quantity is close overall. On simpler songs, the texture and resolution are quite impressive for the price but when the low end comes in, it does weaken the details pulling the bite on some instruments. What it does not limit is the vocal region letting it sing confidently in the mix. Timbre We have also insider information that points to this as well as indirect evidence from upper harmonics measurements. Apparently, this OEM driver has been catching dust on the market for quite some time.Overall, I wouldn’t describe the S12 as a complex IEM. The impression it gives is of a small but tough piece of gear that can be taken out for a beating. The S12 Pro is identical to the standard S12 version in shape and design. Just the color scheme changes to a dark/navy blue (or “Deep Space Blue”, as named by the company), which I personally find nicer, especially with its metallic tone. Overall build quality is solid. It is easy to see that the earpieces consist of two parts attached together (apparently glued) as it is not seamless. Even so, the finish is very smooth; there are no sharp ends and the whole shape of the housings is all rounded.
