We’ll send you the latest news and information on our work, campaigns, fundraising, events and other ways you can support our vision for a thriving countryside. I have never encountered the author before or read any of her books, but I like how she structured the story and merged everything together. Exciting, mesmerising and suspenseful, Butterfly Summer is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read. I am planning to read one of her other books, Forbidden Friends. I would give this book a five star rating because it was a riveting read! Anne-Marie Conway is a primary school teacher specialising in drama, but also runs her own children’s theatre company, Full Circle. She lives in London with her husband, two young sons and two eccentric cats, Betty and Boo. Her books have been selected for the Summer Reading Challenge twice ( Phoebe Finds Her Voice in 2011 and Butterfly Summer in 2012) and – with Butterfly Summer also selected for Bookbuzz 2013 and shortlisted for the Oxfordshire Book Awards – Anne-Marie has become renowned for her sizzling summer mysteries. Tangled Secrets is her third such novel.

Every so often I enjoy a historical saga or family saga to help clear my mind of all the carnage I read about and this book hit the spot. I think it is a great book and everyone who likes to feel what is going to happen next, this book is for you, thank you for reading. The latter was once rarely seen before 1 July, but despite the weather turning unsettled this week the species is expected to beat its earliest-ever sighting of 10 June 1893, when pupils at Marlborough College caught one in woods beside the school. Oates has spotted the meadow brown, large blue, high brown fritillary, dark green fritillary, silver-washed fritillary, comma, ringlet, marbled white, silver-studded blue and purple hairstreak earlier than any season since he began recording butterflies in 1971. Butterflies are climate and weather opportunists par excellence,” he said. “Don’t write a butterfly book – climate change will make it instantly out-of-date.”

This is very different to what I’v read from Harriet before but it was a lovely surprise – a really unusual idea and I enjoyed getting to know all the women of the family. And do you know what the Ancient Greeks used to believe? That butterflies represent the souls of the dead." The common blue, or Polommatus icarus. The ‘icarus’ in the Latin name refers to the Icarus of Greek mythology. | Sharp Photography Large skipper So, to sum up, some of Britain’s butterflies are enjoying the benefits of hotter-than-average summers – at least in the short term – while, as with all our wild creatures, they face an uncertain future in a rapidly changing world. Harriet Evans really “brings you home” with this book. The writing is full of emotions, depth and mystery. I loved how vividly Harriet described all the places, unfortunately I didn’t feel the same with the story. It was quite clear in the end, but the way to get there was complicated and stony. The idea behind it all is fab and I wish I was more gripped, but something was missing for me. I think clearer connections and a flowing storyline would have helped for me. I guess that could be quite different for other readers, but that’s how I felt. I'm not really sure what I feel about this book to be honest. It's a saga of a tale which skips through generations of a family, where the females inherit the family home "Keepsake" but I found it quite slow to get going and the first half was actually quite confusing. I started to get lost between all the previous generations that were referred to.

To begin with The Butterfly Summer was exciting and refreshing, the cryptic storyline pulling you in and not letting go. However from the midway point it began to considerably slow down and become rather dull, stale. Nina is such an interesting character that, by contrast, the snippets (rather extensive ones) about Teddy’s past were difficult to plow through. Grasslands are an incredibly valuable habitat for many of the UK’s moths and butterflies. Semi-natural grassland, pasture, arable land, urban parkland and any areas with rough unmanaged grass will all support a variety of butterfly species. In the height of summer these areas can be teeming with Skippers, Common Blues, Ringlets and Meadow Browns. Be sure to inspect any flowering plants (particularly thistles and knapweeds) as these can act as vital nectaring points for many butterflies. Pay close attention for the fast and subtle movements of smaller species as these can often disappear against such a busy environment. A prime example of this is the Small Copper which is notoriously hard to spot due to its minute size, fast flight and discrete colouration (when its wings are closed). LOOK OUT FOR: In this article we have compiled a short guide on which butterflies you are likely to see outside this spring/summer, as well as some tips on the features by which you can distinguish certain species. Gardens In the UK there are currently 57 resident species of butterfly and two regular migrants. Of these, it is estimated that 76% have declined in abundance, occurrence or both over the past 40 years. Almost all of these losses can be attributed to man-made changes such as habitat destruction and pollution, along with larger patterns of weather and climate change.I loved this book I couldn't stop reading, adventures wow fab! you have to read this book full of suspense and mysterious.
