Longevity: I was genuinely surprised by how long Artisan Pure lasted on my skin – I could still detect its profile 6+ hours later whilst it hung onto my clothing for over 4! Sillage: This is where Artisan Pure shines, I believe – one can instantly detect a hint of lemon, in the room, without being overpowered. After a moment, the lingering ginger and musk give this non-offensive Eau de Toilette a more subdued, yet pleasant presence.

Versatility: Given the underlying musk and amber, I can see Artisan Pure’s citrus and aromatic accords working from the beginning of spring until the end of fall! Even though he was discontinued, I wanted to meet him. I tested it in spring / summer (i.e. as intended). John Varvatos' fragrance designed for the sophisticated man is on the road to becoming a classic. John Varvatos Artisan Pure This is one to save for the hot weather and can be worn casually say at the beach, to even formal parties/work when pairing with a light coloured suit. Versatility is there, but it depends on the location and occasion (no to clubbing, but fine for a beach party in the night) I save this one for hot holidays abroad or on rare scorching days in the UK. This is one that I rarely pull out, but when I do I am in awe of the repose that comes with it. Artisan Pure is one of the most popular fragrances by John Varvatos and a perennial favourite. It has been turning heads since 2018. Sometimes known as aromatic water, eau de toilettes, such as this one, have a lower percentage of volatile oils than parfums do, routinely between 5-15%. Because they are lighter, they are a common choice for on-the-job wear. A Symphonic CompositionOverall: I am a huge fan of Artisan Pure! It smells tranquil to me in fact, as if I am walking through a warm flower field on a clear summer’s day. Its citrus notes with the clementine and lemon put a refreshing spell on you, but the rest of the notes are very calming too. The initial spray is glorious with this one, and as it dries down the lingering scent trail is one to remember too. What can I say? Well, it is a scent without character and totally boring. It's hard to find anything interesting in it. Oh, monotonous citrus, the "quality" of which is, at best, average.

Artisan Pure zaps you with Italian citrus - I get mostly a deep, cloved orange that never leaves - and then adds woods that get smooth and creamy by the end. There’s an herbal quality to Artisan Pure, but it’s not the least bit green. That dark orange adds so much character. It’s tangy, spicy and sophisticated. And while marketed as a cologne targeted at met, I can easily see this being worn as a feminine scent, as well – the powdery drydown period really allows the fragrance to stay present in hot, humid weather whilst the thyme and citrus notes give it a new life, indoors. Overall, Artisan Pure reminds me of a more versatile and active version of 1-12 by Halston given its bright profile supported by a sensitive muskiness. John Varvatos Artisan Pure is inspired by the verdant and lush hills of Xalapa, Mexico and its vast coffee and citrus groves. Redolent, luxurious citrus notes bring an understated elegance to modern, sun-warmed woods. The fragrance is a crisp, woody citrus scent, as refined as it is cool. Highlighted are three distinct types of petitgrains, which use all elements of the citrus tree: leaves, branches and tender fruit; as well as the best quality of orris. This one smells natural to me, no chemical synthetic nonsense with Artisan Pure. If you are a modern-day gentleman then I would pair you with this magic bottle. John Varvatos, an underrated designer house that is rumoured to be going bankrupt. Such a shame as their fragrances are such good quality and they have a great range that can appeal to most. You should be able to find this fragrance at department stores still, however, and you can find their fragrances for sale at regular retail pricing online as well, but will that change soon?

I’m a big fan of John Varvatos’ work in the fragrance, and Artisan Pure is a major reason why – following the brief opening period and throughout most of its drydown, one is able to smell strong accords of lemon, thyme, and mandarin orange with a brush of musk, to finish. Unlike similar summer-centric fragrances, Artisan Pure is rather complex, often revealing notes that I thought had long-since disappeared. He is indifferent to his surroundings. Durability below average (which, paradoxically, may be its advantage ...) John Varvatos always have great presentation and with Artisan Pure, the bottle design continues the trend and shines. With its wooden cap, white opaque bottle wrapped with a white, flat willow-like material. The base of the bottle is also wooden and is a perfect representation of what the fragrance is trying to be. It looks natural and summery, just as the smell is. This is praised as the definitive vacation scent, but to me it's the definitive *beach* vacation scent with that south european twist and I almost feel like wearing this anywhere else would be out of place. My closing remark is that this feels like Versace pour Homme minus tonka bean and 4x the neroli - they are really that similar even though VPH lasts about an hour, is plain and boring, but also cheap. There are 2 ways in which you can return items that have been delivered direct from one out approved suppliers.Originality: I have yet to come across a summer cologne that is as complex as Artisan Pure, especially in an EdT – it lingers, lasts, and leaves a great impression! If this is what the "flagship" of the John Varvatos brand looked like, it is not surprising to me that it is no longer with us.
