About this deal

Well worth the trip up the northern beaches peninsular along the winding road from Newport ( the road can be busy and slow on peak beach days) The main character, Rebecca, is strangely used as a mouthpiece for typically liberal talking points. As a left-leaning person who actually vibes with the points Rebecca makes about wealth inequality, I still feel like her character is more of an irritating caricature than she is a genuine vessel for the arguments she makes. The characters’ decision-making and the events of the book did not feel realistic at all. Why would a random billionaire offer to double the salary of a man he just met? Why would said billionaire’s wife hire the first random writer that stumbles into her house (Rebecca) to ghost-write her memoir?

Basically, I listened to this audiobook on 1.25 speed and then bumped it up to 1.5 and then bumped it up to 2 and then bumped it up to 2.25 and then bumped it up to 2.5 and then bumped it up to 2.75 and listened to the vast majority of this book at 2.75 speed. There was nothing wrong with doing this, because nothing happened in this book that meant anything. So I didn't have to worry about missing anything important at least? I'm sure there are tons of subliminal messages to be found in this novel but, to be honest, I was simply entertained by the author's talent with words. I'll think about and try to figure out all that underlying stuff later. Much later! Usually for me, the only books that fall under that category are juicy thrillers, but there was something about Palm Beach that hooked me and wouldn’t let me go! Pizza Alfresco is great—right on Worth Avenue, it’s an adorable pizza and salad place and you eat in a Mizner garden. Sant Ambroeus is a wonderful new addition to the area. Rebecca, a journalist, finds herself working with the Stones as well. Her career takes off and it would seem that their lives were on a smooth glide path. Fate was not initially kind, their infant son Bash is diagnosed with an unexpected, rare, life threatening problem. The beach itself is long and pretty, with a surf pool at the southern end. There are good facilities to change and have a rinse down after a swim For something cultural, there’s The Society of the Four Arts. It has a beautiful garden. They rotate exhibitions. Oh! Green’s Pharmacy. It's been around forever. It has the best soda fountain, vanilla milkshake, and grilled cheese. Palm Beach: A Complete Guide to the Islandcovers all of this and more. Written by a well-known author who is also alocal resident, the book offers everything you need to know to have fun and enjoy this famous and exclusive island. In the style of Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence and Frances Mayes’ Under the Tuscan Sun, this book shows that sometimes a move to a new location can also mean a move to a new and better place in your life. I received an ARC of this book, and I wasn't at all sure that it was my kind of book (not to mention, I wasn’t a fan of the cover! lol), but once I started it, I couldn't put it down until I finished the entire thing!

Whether you want to walk the island, enjoy a leisurely brunch, paddle board with your dog, shop until you drop, wander through art galleries, relax with a massage, or dine under the stars, this book is for you. But okay, slow plot isn't the worst sin in the world. I love Catcher in the Rye and nothing even happens in that book. But Catcher is engagingly written, whether you love it or hate it. This was like reading . . . nothing. It had almost no voice. It was like a dessert that only tastes like sugar, and you're like-- wait, that's it? Below, Aerin Lauder talks to Vogue about her Palm Beach—the one she enjoyed as a child at her family's Neoclassical home on Ocean Avenue (and where Douglas Fairbanks made a memorable appearance), to the one she enjoys with her family today. (Plus, why she’s still looking for a turquoise bathtub.) in my opinion there is certainly not enough development of our characters as there could have been, which is a major point of regret - like what is Paul's deal? the Stone daughter? the main plotline ties up sooo neatly but that means there's very little regard for anything else that was brought up. Her husband calls her out on this, and it doesn't work out for her. The FBI gets involved. But does she grow from this? No, she just kind of. weathers it and life goes on. She's never reflective. She never thinks about anything she does. She doesn't change.Early in the 1900s, one-time oil baron Henry Morrison Flagler took interest in the Southern coast of Florida and began developing an exclusive resort community. Establishing a railroad that would allow easier access to the area, he went on to build two hotels—his hope was that America’s first families would come to populate the area. This modest community would later evolve into an iconic American destination, hosting British royalty, American movie stars, and becoming the home-away-from-home to some of the country’s leading families. As the century continued, Palm Beach established itself as a luxury hideaway synonymous with old-world glamour and new-world sophistication. Opinions get up close and personally challenged as things change as Rebecca sees a whole different side to the mega wealthy.
