About this deal

Traditional mortar mixes are available and the product we review in this category is one of these. This is where the sand and cement are pre-mixed in the correct ratio and you just add water and stir. This grout can simply be brushed into the joints and compacted by hand. There’s no mixing required and, unlike many other products, you don’t need to keep the paving wet as you work. In fact, it should be dry whilst spreading the grout. Once fully compacted, any excess can be safely swept away and then provided there’s no chance of rain for at least 10 hours, you can leave Bostik paving grout to cure all by itself fully! A fast-drying product that can be applied even on drizzly days, this Geo-Fix All Weather Paving Joint Compound is one of the best patio grouts if you want a slate grey finish. Use either a brush or a squeegee to brush the grout into the gaps between the paving slabs. If the instructions indicate that the paving slabs need to be continuously wetted, you may need an extra pair of hands.

There are a few different types of patio grout, each with their own pros and cons. The most important thing is that the instructions are followed correctly to prevent residue and staining. Pre-Mixed Patio Grout That said, buying this Bostik Cementone mix does work out to be expensive if you plan on using it to install a new patio. It’s best used for small areas and repairs. As long as you seal the tub well, you can store the mix in a cool place indefinitely. The Bostik Cementone General Purpose Mortar is a standard cement mortar for those who like to go old school/traditional in their stonework. This product is a pre-mix of sand and cement in the correct proportions. You just have to add the right amount of water, and you’re told how much to add to the tub. Mix it all up and you’re done. Make sure you’ve prepared your grouting area completely (power washing, moss removal etc.) before your start the grouting job and plan it all out carefully beforehand. Most of these types of grout state that you can even apply them in wet weather – useful in the UK summertime.

I look at the pros and cons of the best patio jointing products as well as their features that can help to decide where and when to use them. I give our recommendations for each one. Technology has made patio grout compounds a cinch to use as many of them don’t even have any cement in them at all. I look at the grout products for which you just need to use a broom and a trowel. We’ll compare the Bostik jointing compound to the competition, focusing on its value for money and overall performance. By the end of this review, we’ll let you know whether Bostik patio grout is the best option for your next paving project. The speed of setting can vary quite dramatically. On a dry day with temperatures of 15°C or above, it should set within 12 hours. On colder days, you should allow up to 5 days for the product to set. It’s also important to note that this paving grout is designed for joints over 5 mm wide and 20 mm deep, so it shouldn’t be used if you have very narrow spaces between your slabs. As long as you put at least 5cm of water on top of the left-over grout in the tub, it keeps for about a year.

Provided that you’ve waited for 10-48 hours to allow the compound to cure fully, joints set with Bostik patio grout will form a hard-wearing and solid structure, with no additional sealing required to provide complete protection against weed growth, erosion and rainfall. The grout dries hard enough to withstand your pressure washer and any weeds trying to get through from underneath, yet remains permeable enough to let water pass through it without pooling up. This is simply a patio grout that doesn’t contain any form of cement at all. It’s made of resin and comes in a form that looks like grains of sand. It is single-part as you apply it directly from the tub as it’s ready mixed.Though the two colours that Bostik patio grout comes in do suit most paver styles, it would be nice to have a wider variety of options, and whilst a curing time of 10 hours is far from the longest wait time we’ve seen, there are a few products that dry much faster! Colours One thing you’ll need to consider is the colour of your patio grout. Whether you’ve got darker granite tiles or lighter limestone, you should be able to find a pre-mixed grout available in a colour that blends with your existing patio. Ease of Application This is useful where you aren’t sure of your maths in working out the ratio for yourself or you have only a small area to grout. It’s not really cost-effective for installing a complete patio; you are better off buying a bag of sand and one bag of cement and mixing them yourself.

All the patio grouts I’ve recommended are specifically made for ease of use. I’ve only selected premixed grouts, and most can be applied single handedly with just a brush. Some products, like the EASYJoint Paving Grout require the paving to be kept wet during application. Covers an area from 2m 2 to 4.32 m 2 depending on the size of the slabs and the width and depth of the gaps between them. Sika FastFix All-Weather Self-Setting Paving and Jointing Compound is a resin grout suitable for your patio. There is no cement in this product and it looks like sand. It comes in a variety of grey and brown colours to match or contrast with your patio stones: Deep Grey, Charcoal, Flint, Dark Buff and Stone. Patio or paving grout, is a mixture used to fill the gaps between paving slabs or tiles. Grout is used both on patios and in between bathroom/kitchen tiles. It can be used for laying a new patio, or repairing an existing patio. To prepare your patio for grouting, pressure wash it to clean it and then scoop out any old and loose grout. It avoids puddling on your patio by letting water seep down through it but stops unsightly vegetation from growing by preventing weeds from coming through. And don’t worry about pressure washing your patio, but do try to avoid directing a strong spray on the grout.
