Few things to consider when it comes to looking for spice substitutes are: 1. One: Heat one tablespoon of sunflower oil in a frying pan and fry the onion, garlic, ginger, and cardamom pods for 5 minutes until soft.

There are even earlier indicators of the dish being around in the 12th century, with a very similar-sounding dish being mentioned in the Manasollasa – an ancient text composed by King Someshvara III.
