About this deal

There are no maximum recommended songs in your entire music library. What is however very important is that you can keep all those songs organized and easy to find. This includes sorting them by genres, categories, energy levels, tags and/or keys. The number of songs in a DJ set will depend on your genre, mixing style, and the time you’re performing at the event. If you only brought 30 songs to a one-hour DJ set, there is no room to adjust your playlist to the crowd’s reaction.

Whilst most Wedding DJs are a one man/woman show (some may bring an assistant) – we have a few “DJ plus Live Musician” acts who offer a different take on a DJ performance. These acts mix a DJ with a live singer, saxophone player, drummer, violinist and sometimes multiple live musicians - to give their performance even more depth and wow factor!External hard drives or external solid-state disks are a solid option to store your files since they are cheap and respectively reliable and fast. More Info Adjust your DJ set to the way the crowd reacts. You can only do that by bringing more songs than the minimum of 30. My recommendation is to at least double the number of the minimum required songs.

You’ll most likely want both your band and your DJ to be setup before the evening party begins, so they can seamlessly transition between performances. Some DJs offer an early setup option for a nominal extra fee. There are a couple of things to look at when trying to calculate how many songs there will be a DJ set. I have made a table that explains how many songs you would need for different lengths of DJ gigs. The general rule of thumb is that you should take your DJ set length in minutes and divide that number by 2. This way you have a rough estimate of how many songs you need for your DJ set. DJ set lengthIf you’re an open-format DJ, you need to take the safe route and take into account that you could be playing a lot of pop and hip hop. Because you’re an open-format DJ, you don’t really know how long you will be playing every song because there will be different genres throughout the evening. Whether that be a dynasty or redraft league, 1QB, or a Superflex format, the trade analyzer will calculate the merits of the trade across three standard scoring formats and tell you whether we would recommend making that deal or not. So if the night goes exactly as you planned, the number of songs that you’ve calculated would be enough. But you don’t want to do that, because you always want to have some room to switch things up in case the crowd is not feeling the current song or the energy level. So you have to give yourself options to choose from.

You’re the DJ for the entire evening. You start at the beginning, where people are just chilling and having their first few drinks. You’re an open format DJ, so you’re DJing just about any genre. If you’re booking a DJ to perform alongside a live wedding band or wedding singer then you will need to allow separate space for each to setup and perform around the dancefloor. Sometimes it’s possible with enough advance warning, for the band and DJ to combine their equipment into the same space, or share the same PA speakers. Casio DJ-120D Desktop Calculator, with 12 Large Digit Display Buttons and 3 Memory Keys - DJ-120D PLUS An open-format DJ, like in the second example, would not bring 240 songs for the entire evening but more like 500 songs to be able to go in a different direction with the music when needed. While a few Wedding DJs may specialise in a certain genre of music such as dance, house or RnB, most could better be described as popular music DJs, with a wide collection of hit music spanning 1950s through to the current day. Such DJs are able to provide sets that cater to a wide range of musical tastes, often reading the audience and adapting their set on the fly to ensure their music keeps your guests dancing all night long.

If you are the DJ for the entire night, you need to keep this in mind too. Base your calculations on the different times of the event. When you’ll be playing at least 2 minutes on average of each song, divide the hours that you’ll be DJing by 2 minutes. So for 1 hour, you’ll divide 60 minutes by 2. Resulting in 30 songs for a one-hour DJ set. There is another important factor that will determine how many songs are in a DJ set, and that is your mixing style. Are you a person that doesn’t like to play songs for a long time before mixing in another song, then you’ll have more songs in your DJ set For an open format DJ, the best thing to do is presume that you’ll need 1,5 minutes per song in your DJ set. 1,5 minutes of songs in a one-hour DJ set will be 40 songs for a one-hour DJ set, times 6 hours. In this situation, there are on average 240 songs in a 6-hour DJ set for an open-format DJ How Many Songs to Bring to a DJ Gig

There are multiple places where DJs get their music from. So if you want to enlarge your DJ set library feel free to take a look at the article. I have made a table of the average amount of songs played per hour per genre so you can find out for yourself how many songs you will need to play every hour for your genre. Genre This equates to a 32% discount, rather than a 35% discount, and this calculation is how the calculator is intended to be used. As an example, to more efficiently compute the discount described above: After that, you will need to find a couple of songs that mix well together. Practice on this so you are sure that they mix well or do not mix well together. You take the handful of songs that mix well together and label them for later. All Wedding DJs will make announcements on the night, introducing the bride and groom for their first dance, cutting the cake, opening the buffet and giving shout-outs where required.Get a good impression of how long you’ll be playing your songs by practising for at least half an hour with the genre(s) that you’ll be playing.
