The guards are afraid to get near her — but Melanie doesn’t quite understand why. That is, until a wave of zombies suddenly overrun the compound. This opens her eyes to the outside world for the first time; an existence plagued by a zombie apocalypse within which, unbeknownst to her, she has a role to play. Regardless, for the majority, Rhiannon succeeds at crafting a highly accessible and exhilarating series that’s bound to please anyone looking for the best zombie books released. This was a very enjoyable read for me. Admittedly, the first book is a little oddly paced in some spots. There are also moments where political views seem to be oddly thrown into the dialogue.

Brooks took the undead genre in a totally new direction, providing first-hand (fictional) accounts from a variety of voices that span the globe. Recently adapted into a movie, The Girl With All The Gifts revolves around Melanie – a young student with an incredible aptitude for learning. Speaking of romance and zombies, I give you Warm Bodies, a zombie book that gives a not-so-subtle nod to Romeo & Julietwith the romantic leads being named R and Julie. See what they did there? Unlike some of the more serious romance-y horror books on this list, this is another book I would put in that zom-rom-com category that is definitely a thing. Equal parts funny and sweet, this novel tells the story of a zombie man who falls in love with a human woman. Together, they discover the transformative powers of love. If you’ve already read Warm Bodiesand enjoyed it, the sequel The Burning Worldwas just released last year. warmth by sumiko saulson The Reapers Are the Angels, by Alden Bell. I was glad to find this one on so many lists of the best zombie novels, because we need more literary southern gothic style books about the undead. The First Days, by Rhiannon Frater. The first in a multi-book series, it tells the story of two women (Jenni and Katie) who travel across Texas during a zombie apocalypse to rescue Jenni’s son. If Finding Nemowas about people rather than fish, and zombies were what stood in the father’s way rather than human beings, well then you would have this book. Does that sound like a stretch? Hear me out. Jim Thurmand is one of the few humans left alive in a world ridden by zombies. But Jim can’t just hide and wait for the zombie uprising to end because his young son is in danger several miles away. So along with an unlikely group of companions, Jim travels across the country to rescue his son. See the connection? This book is the first in a zombie book series. the reapers are the angels by alden bell But let’s be honest: There’s no such thing as the best zombie apocalypse book or novel of all time. When it comes to fiction, the word “best” is highly subjective. A book that blows me away might fall flat with you, and vice versa.

I think fans of military-themed zombie apocalypse books will fully enjoy author Jonathan Maberry’s release. The plot centers on the legendary Joe Ledger, a hardened Baltimore detective, who joins a secret response team to stop terrorists. The mission: prevent the baddies from infecting people with a terrible bio-weapon that, essentially, turns them into zombies.Carnage Road, by Gregory Lamberson. This novella tells the story of two bikers who travel across the country after their gang is wiped out during a nationwide zombie crisis. This first book in the White Trash Zombieseriesfollows zombie Angel Crawford’s transformation into zombiehood. Angel is a high school dropout with a criminal record living in Southern Louisiana with her alcoholic father. Her life is in a downward spiral until one day when she wakes up in a hospital after overdosing on pills. She has very little memory of what happened the night before, and on top of that she receives an anonymous letter telling her she has a job. As if dealing with her new life as a zombie wasn’t enough, the morgue begins filling up with decapitated victims of a serial killer. tell my horse by zora neale hurston I think what I loved most about the book is M. R. Carey’s artistry of the slow-reveal. At the start, you aren’t fully informed of what Melanie’s ‘gifts’ really are, leaving you guessing. In addition, most characters are multi-faceted with well-written dialogue between people. The book also pivots between a sense of hope and hopelessness, engendering tension throughout.
