About this deal

In total 4 times conquering the English Channel and the Irish Sea from France into Ireland. The last two flights producing velocities of less than 900 ypm. A truly great thoroughbred. Danny De Voogd (NL); wins 1st prize against 1,500 p. and 2nd prize against 1,700 p. with a descendant of Gold Dust. Predation: The wild pigeon is predated upon, almost exclusively, by the peregrine falcon, a bird that is also found living and breeding in coastal regions. The sparrowhawk may also predate on the wild pigeon. The feral pigeon has few if any natural predators, with man being the main threat to the bird in areas of human habitation. In 1951 the partners scored 23rd Open in the National from Rennes, a very hard race with the winning velocity around 800 yards per minute. To be followed in 1953 with 33rd Open NIPA Derby from Landerneau, France, and 62nd and 75th Open National Redon, France. The latter a distance of 532 miles. The following year 1954 saw the strain winning three positions in a tough National from Redon with only 28 birds home in race time. The positions were 20th, 21st and 24th Open.

The other difference between older versions of the V is that the game gun doesn’t have game scenes. Instead it comes with profuse scroll engraving, extending to the fore-end iron and top-lever. The engraving has been done by laser, but it looks the part. I imagine Beretta is offering one style of engraving for both game and Sporter as it is one place where it can save money without affecting the build quality. Oily bits They are intelligent. And they can recognise similar faced people in pictures and daily life, and all the more, can even recognize themselves. Interesting isn’t it! Pigeons are highly intelligent and can recognise all 26 letters of the alphabet as well as being able to conceptualise. Pigeons can differentiate between photographs and even two different human beings in a single photograph. Habitat: The wild pigeon is found in coastal areas and the feral pigeon is found almost exclusively in areas of human habitation. On the first stand – two driven targets – I missed all six. I was worried as I am usually good at driven clays. I went on to another stand, considered by many to be challenging because of the fast quartering-away clays. (Read how to improve your clayshooting.) Succes! Rezultatele Chelaru Cristinel la nivel National: Pigeons have been found to pass the ‘mirror test’, the ability to recognise its own reflection in a mirror. The pigeon is one of only 6 species, and the only non-mammal, to have this ability Have a look at your piece of jewellery. If it was made in a country that adheres to the Convention on the Control and Marking of Articles of Precious Metals (otherwise known as the Common Control Mark), you should find a set of hallmarks / stamps. These markings will be pretty small, so you'll need a magnifying glass to see them properly!

Young pigeons: GPSOL is given with drinking water in a dose of 15 ml per 1 litre of water at least 1 day a week. Prior to this triumph this great athlete had won: 1994- 2nd club, 7th South Down Fed. Penzance Yearling National 286 miles; 1995- 1st club, 3rd South Down Fed. 13th Open EDC Dinard (France) 422miles; 1996- 2nd club, 2nd South Down Fed. 23rd Open INFC Old Bird National Rennes (France) 460miles, velocity 924ypm, 1067 members sent 2954 birds; 1997- 1st club, 1st South Down Fed. 19th Open INFC Old Bird National St. Nazaire (France) 505 miles, velocity 733ypm, 728 members sent 1901 birds.

Beretta Silver Pigeon V Sporter in detail

Pigeons can fly between 600 and 700 miles in a single day, with the longest recorded flight in the 19th century taking 55 days between Africa and England and covering 7000 miles

When one writes about pigeons that have flown the route over and from Europe's mainland across the English Channel, over the island of Britain and then across the Irish Sea one seeks to pay tribute to those who have successfully faced what the Canadian, Gordon Chalmers, once described as ' The toughest of tough routes'. Therefore I offer this piece entitled 'Irish Pigeon Gold'. Unfortunately not every athletic stalwart can be considered due to the space available. Pigeons are thought to navigate by sensing the earth’s magnetic field and using the sun for direction. Other theories include the use of roads and even low frequency seismic waves to find their way home Even though man no longer has a need for the pigeon in the 21st century, there is clearly still a place for this much-loved and much-maligned bird. Slowly we are realising that we cannot wipe out wild bird populations just because they are inconvenient or unwelcome - particularly when the source of the problem is human. With the advent of the Internet and the wider availability of information, we are learning how and why problems such as those associated with the feral pigeon exist and how we can better deal with them. We also know that pigeon populations can be controlled in a humane and effective manner and that to continue to use commercially motivated controls such as culling is not only morally wrong (and often illegal) but also counterproductive. The future may not be full of hope for the pigeon, but the bird has survived in close association with man for over 10,000 years and it is likely that it will continue to do so well into the future.

William Mason settled in the north west of Ireland in the early years of the twentieth century after leaving his native Scotland. Prior to his state of exile Mason had along with his brother raced pigeons and the latter was the one and only founder of the '1210' strain- Alexander Mason. (Mason's 1210 strain appears in the pedigrees of some of the greatest Scottish and British winning pigeons). Upon his arrival in Ireland William Mason established a loft based upon the best of the '1210' strain and began achieving outstanding results on the difficult north west route. The Steelium Optimabore HP barrels are built on the familiar monobloc principle, and use Beretta’s Optima system with extended forcing cones to reduce recoil, and chromium-plated bores to ensure longevity. These barrels are extremely tough, and the 3in chamber of this gun will handle superior steel and magnum loads. (Read is my gun safe for steel shot?) For the Smyth brothers of Ballymena, Bobby and Hughie, the good harvest appeared in 1948 when they were 11th from Rennes, France, at a distance of 510 miles. Being named, Rennes Queen, she was one of only 12 birds in race time. This hen also took 18th Open from the same race point in 1949 beaten by her daughter, Northern Leader. The latter was 7th Open in a race where only twenty-five pigeons were timed. As a Sporter, it has been designed specifically for Sporting clays. A game version is also available. The Sporter has a ventilated midrib, is slightly heavier than the game version and is finished with a rubber recoil pad, whereas the game version has a rather classy wooden heel-plate.
