About this deal

Enter 40478 Mini Disney Castle, which was revealed to much fanfare and excitement! This miniature version of the larger and more expensive 71040 Disney Castle is a great alternative for LEGO fans on a budget, and for any type of Disney fan. Cinderella's magnificent castle has achieved extraordinary renown since 1971 and this design appears immediately recognisable. The dramatic towers and decorative finials look impressive, reaching 21cm in height. However, I think the beautiful colours are more important in achieving fantastic display value, with pearl gold and differing shades of blue complementing these white and light bluish grey walls. Keepability [5]– An instant classic, and works solo or as a companion set to the large Disney Castle

Trans-clear 1x1 tiles form windows across the front. These are correctly positioned and I am particularly pleased with that situated in front of the angled roof slopes. The primary tower looks fantastic too, consisting almost entirely of pearl gold parts. The adjoining bartizan also appears accurate and I am impressed that the designer has captured such realistic detail at this scale. With so many large-scale releases in 2021, the year has actually been an excellent year for LEGO fans on a budget, or if you’re like me, with little to no room left for massive 4-digit piece sets. For those on a budget or those short on space, this set is just perfect, and I think in many ways, is superior to the big Disney Castle. For context, I own the large Disney Castle but it’s still in the box because I don’t have the space. The colours are also excellent, and the blend of blue, opalescent blues, against the greys, and pearl golds are absolutely stunning.

That said, there’s so much to love, and I especially like the new printed tiles with my favourite being the LEGO Disney Castle tile – I just love it when LEGO gets meta, and produces tiles of actual LEGO sets. Measuring over 8 in. (21 cm) high, 5.5 in. (14 cm) wide and 5.5 in. (13 cm) deep, this LEGO® | Disney Mini Disney Castle makes a striking display piece standing on a mantelpiece or shelf in your home or office. The perfect gift for the Magic Kingdom fan of any age out there, light and display your Mini Disney Castle today! And that’s absolutely fair – but while all those models are impressive works of LEGO art, there’s something to be said for the unique challenges presented by building small. Give someone fewer and fewer pieces with which to put together a reasonable and identifiable representation of an iconic location – like Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle, for instance – and you’re essentially asking them to paint a masterpiece with only one or two brushes. Here’s a look at the instruction manual, which has a new (and a little odd) booklet shape which is new to me.

Technic gears represent superb machicolations beneath the projecting sections of each tower, while the roofs include an interesting trans-opalescent blue shade. I have not encountered the colour before and the three elements present here are new in trans-opalescent blue. Moreover, the arrangement of separate towers corresponds with the source material. The LEGO 40478 Mini Disney Castle is a great collectable for any Disney or LEGO fan and deserves to take pride of place in your room - so what better way to do that than showcasing it in a clear display case from iDisplayit. The build was surprisingly long, and kept me engaged throughout, and I had fun seeing the Castle come together. There are some fiddly bits as you’re building mostly with small elements, but I did enjoy the techniques that made this unique shape possible.

This set looks awesome on display on your desk, or next to your other LEGO sets with its beautiful colour scheme. From the side, the blue rooftop cones with pearl gold ski poles contrast brilliantly against the white main structure. Here’s a look at the entrance and the doors – you can see golden spikes inside the arch which is a nice touch. Still, there’s nothing inherently worse about his torso – it’s just different – and it adds up to a smart inclusion where other microscale models, such as the annual May the Fourth build, tend to omit minifigures entirely. You could say Minnie’s missing, but then where does it end? — Price — The build was fairly enjoyable for me – I really like building at micro scale, and at 567 pieces, was a medium-length and rather satisfying experience.
