If the Switched live and Permanent Live was connected to the boiler before to do the switching of central heating on and off, then our Boiler Switch will be able to do the same control. The Switched Live would be placed in the NO terminal, whilst a "jumper" cable should go between the right hand L terminal and the COM cable, with the permanent live and the neutral cable going to the left hand side L and N terminals. An overactive boiler calls for further investigation. As you already know, a boiler consists of several components, and any one or more of these parts can be responsible for the appliance not turning off. In addition, the overall size of your home, the number of radiators, how well insulated it is and your hot water needs (whether you run multiple hot water taps at the same time, for example) will all also affect the size of boiler you need. Currently, electric boilers are broadly comparable with gas boilers in terms of buying the equipment and maintenance costs, but running costs are (for the time being) a different kettle of fish. The simplest boiler control is the on/off switch. Turning it on puts the boiler in standby mode until it needs to provide heat for your hot water or radiators – for example, when the room becomes cooler than the temperature set on the thermostat. Standby uses a small amount of electricity – usually less than 10W per hour.As it stands, electricity costs substantially more than gas per kWh. The energy unit price cap from October 1st 2023 is 6.89p per kWh of gas and 27.35p per kWh of electricity. Load compensation controls lower the flow temperature your boiler is running at to a level that's sufficient to reach the temperature set on your thermostat, reducing heat wastage.
