About this deal

The LS C120D II uses 2.4 GHz tech to turn on and off and control brightness remotely over distances of up to 328 feet. If you have another Aputure light, you can use the same remote to control all of the company's lights. This is convenient because you may control up to three separate lights with one remote.

The C120D II boasts an incredible luminance of 135,000 lux at 0.5 meters away with the Aputure Fresnel (optional). With an approximate brightness equivalent to a 1,000-watt tungsten light, the C120D II is nearly 25% brighter than the 1st generation C120D, making it competitive with some of the highest-grade studio lights on the market. Lighting that can be controlled remotely would be ideal for solo photographers. Nothing is more inconvenient than walking over to the light and returning to the lens to see how it appears. The LS C120D II has a heat control mechanism that is sophisticated. The fan's rotation will be adjusted according to the air temperature.I recently reviewed the MC series and the new 300D MK II and it seemed like an oversight to not spend more time with the 120D II. As a longtime user of the first generation 120D, I was particularly interested in the design updates in the second generation. Is it worth upgrading? Or, if you own the original 120D are you okay waiting? Let’s dive in. The 120d Mark 2’s DMX system is also pre-programmed with special lighting effects (i.e. thunder, fireworks, etc.) and allows users to input their own effects, creating a light that has truly limitless possibilities. While the C120D II boasts an impressive studio grade build quality, it still weighs in at just over 2.2kg (4.85 lbs) allowing filmmakers to easily take this light anywhere without having to worry about the transportation issues that frequently come with larger tungsten fixtures.

The 120d Mark II uses 140 watts of power, which is 20 watts as much as the previous 120d, but the tremendous performance boost from an already powerful device is a brilliant innovation. Except for the color intensity it emits, the 120d is similar to the 120t. The 120d's housing is made entirely of aluminum and goes through over a hundred fabrication phases, according to Aputure. In terms of overall build – the mounting yoke is identical to the 300D MK II and allows for much-improved freedom of movement. A big improvement is also the combination of the power/controller unit. Fewer components just lead to faster setups and more shots per day. Unfortunately, the 120D MK II doesn’t come with a similar light stand mount to the one that ships with the 300D MK II. Perhaps this could be created as an additional accessory in the future? I also found the overall fan noise to be less, versus the 120D MK I. You shouldn’t have any issues using this light during quiet interviews where the fixture is placed close to your subject. The LS C120D II is ideal for sound-sensitive areas because of its sophisticated cooling mechanism, which uses a temperature-sensitive fan to control the heat. While the original 120D was rated at around 6000K, the new Aputure 120D II gets a more industry standard 5500 Kelvin rating for easier matching with daylight and other fixtures, while still retaining the versatility of the universal Bowens mount, ultra-silent temperature control system, wireless remote, and the same carrying bag. One of the most notable upgrades to the 120D II is its new integrated controller/power unit. Made of aircraft-grade aluminium but maintaining its lightweight build, a single power unit means less cabling and power components so filmmakers spend less time setting up their light, and more time being creative.
