The bar became well established and our food and drink evolved into the authentic, but uniquely modern style that Bar 44 is known for across the UK today." In 1870 Morgan took on a job as a writer on the Western Mail, and around the same period he began to write his own books after taking an interest in local history. He made his name as a journalistic writer when he covered the Tynewydd Colliery rescue in Porth in 1877. [3] Morgan closely associated himself with Myfyr Morganwg (Evan Davies), a self-proclaimed archdruid and Welsh writer in neo-druidry, who himself was a student of Iolo Morganwg (Edward Williams) one of the most important and controversial historians in Welsh affairs. In 1889 Morgan published Pabell Dafydd, a Welsh language book on druidism which he followed with Kimmerian Discoveries, covering Morgan's research and thinking on the alleged Chaldean origins of the Welsh people. [1] In 1893 he wrote his magnum opus The Light of Britannia which again explored Druidism in Britain, but also included chapters on phallic worship, King Arthur and his twelve knights and Saint Paul's supposed journey to South Wales. In 1901 Morgan released, The Royal Winged Son of Stonehenge and Avebury a reprint of Kimmerian Discoveries under a different title. The Royal Winged Son was republished in 1984 under the title Mabin of the Mabinogion. In addition the book is peppered with vignettes of how the Morgan brothers became restauranteurs, and the lengths they go to source ingredients and discover new dishes. The mountains, coasts and plains of the country are their larder as they visit caves full of cheese and taste sherry at the many feria.

As a result, we had no other choice than to roll up our sleeves and throw ourselves into the kitchen, learning about produce, techniques and seeking out specialist suppliers of Spanish food and drink.

Owen: I do love the classics, so something I would make weekly at home for breakfast when we were in the kitchen every morning, would be tortilla… just three ingredients… but if you use the best eggs, cook down your onions until they are beautifully rich and sweet, get the potatoes right… George 1838 (St Ishmaels) / Jane 1840 (St Twynnells) / Thomas 1843 (St Twynnells) / Margaret 1845 (Bosherston) Martha Louisa 1840 (Liverpool, LAN) / Edward William 1844 (Liverpool, LAN) / Theodore 1846 (Liverpool, LAN) / Alfred 1848 (Liverpool, LAN) / Emily Jane 1850 (Liverpool, LAN) / Thomas Rowland 1851 (Liverpool, LAN) / Lavinia 1853 (Liverpool, LAN) / Florence Mary 1856 (Liverpool, LAN) / Alice 1858 (Liverpool, LAN) / Allen Edwin Thomas 1862 (Liverpool, LAN)The Mabin of the Mabinogion (reprint of The Royal Winged Son of Stonehenge and Aveburyed.). Thorsons for the Research into Lost Knowledge. 1984. We threw the doors open to a small tapas bar overlooking the high street of our hometown with little idea of what lay ahead," they say. Tom: One of the hardest things was standardising your ‘bunch of..’ or ‘pinch of..’ into measurements people can use in their own kitchen. Their fourth restaurant followed in 2017 with Asador 44, a slightly different concept but with the same focus on quality, authentic Spanish food and drink.

The exact date and place of Morgan's birth is unknown, as Morgan himself hid the details. Although the 1881 census states his year of birth as 1839, latter studies have placed it as 1836. [2] Born to a Thomas T. Morgan, a coal miner, and his wife, Margaret, of Penygraig in the Rhondda, research in The Oxford Companion to the Literature of Wales states that an Owen Morgan was born to a Thomas Morgan and Margaret (née Owen) and christened in 1836. Although no explicit evidence is available, Morgan would later claim connection with the families of Morgan of Llantarnam and Thomas of Llanmihangel. thomas 1822 (castell henri) / levi 1826 (castell henri) / anne 1829 (castell henri) / david 1832 (castell henri) / mary 1835 (castell henri)Owen: With the tortilla we had to tweak it quite a bit to make it ‘home style’, as opposed to the way we’d serve it in one of the Bars. When we were doing the YouTube stuff the biggest hits were patatas bravas and croquetas, those comforting familiar favourites.
