Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is a wonderful and uplifting read that gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings.

What an absolutely beautiful book! Dealt with sensitive subjects really, really well and brilliantly descriptive characters.' Dealt with sensitive subjects really, really well and brilliantly descriptive characters.’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Arthur and Teddy have always been close, and now they must navigate first loves, heartbreak, and finding their place in their community. It's been strange since coming out. I didn't really think about how I would feel after it. You forget that it's not just one moment. It's a moment you have with every single person after that too.'

Arthur is an absolute inspiration…

Arthur’s grandson Teddy also has a secret… the same secret in fact. But is he ready to take the same step as his grandad, or is one bombshell in the family enough? I’m not embarrassed to admit, that Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out by Ryan Love had me in tears on more than one occasion. Don’t worry, happy tears all around. Prepare yourself for a cosy and uplifting journey of self-acceptance and a new fictional grandad you’ll fall in love with from the very first chapter… They’re twofold really, the first relating to Teddy and his treatment of Ben (apparently his boyfriend but you wouldn’t know it) and the second to the story’s narrative and its easy forgiveness of Elizabeth’s homophobia (YMMV on this one). Let’s start with Teddy and Ben because I have a lot to say about it and there will be spoilers (so stop now if you don’t want them).

A mediocre execution of a really fun and sweet concept. Not mad I read it but I wish it had been better. Ugh, that cover is so cute! Look at the little grandpa in his pink shirt and bowtie and he's bonding with his grandson over coming out as gay! UGH UGH. A joyful, big-hearted story about family, friendship and finding your place in the world' Freya Sampson, author of The Last Chance Library The feel-good read of 2023. Perfect for fans of Mike Gayle, Beth O'Leary and Alice Oseman's Heartstopper.

Gentle, honest and beautifully authentic' Julietta Henderson, author of The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman Arthur and Teddy have always been close, and now they must navigate first loves, heartbreak, and finding their place in their community. But can they – and their family – learn to accept who they truly are? Alongside this depth there’s a lightness of touch too as Ryan Love has his characters create memories through simple moments and pleasures, as well as through the larger events, making the narrative feel familiar and real. In Arthur and Teddy are Coming Out we learn that life is made of these quiet, ordinary moments just as much as the dramatic occasions. Ryan Love exemplifies how bravery and contentment are possible for everyone, but that we might just need to make the effort to find happiness for ourselves. I enjoyed spending time with this family and found the book to be a very comforting read. Characters explain their feelings clearly, and there are enough supportive characters that the homophobia explored isn’t too traumatic. The plot isn’t the point - you know where the journey will end from early on but the pleasure is joining Arthur and Teddy on their journey, speed bumps and all! This book really emphasises that it’s never too late to be you and it sure will be in my top favourites of the year. I would love more from Arthur and Teddy. 😍 To me, “Arthur and Teddy are Coming Out” is marketed as this lighthearted, heartwarming little book about a grandpa and a grandson both coming out to their family members as being gay. I honestly don’t think this book was either heartwarming nor lighthearted in the way that the author aimed for. First of all, okay, not everything about this was terrible. Arthur and Madeline were very sweet and their story was (superficially) moving. Generally, the handful of women in this are flat clichés. Elizabeth is the 'career obsessed bitch'. Teddy's other best friend Lexi is a quirky straight girl without a personality beyond going out for drinks with her two ✨gay best friends✨ and complaining about being single.. Arthur and Teddy have always been close, and now they must navigate first loves, heartbreak, and finding their place in their community. But can they - and their family - learn to accept who they truly are?

Proving there's no age limit on following your heart and finding love! I'm totally #TeamArthurandTeddy.' Heidi Swain, Sunday Times bestselling authorThis story is perfect for you if you love queer romances and are in need of a great book that you'll finish in no time because of the writing style and story itself. The characters are brilliant in this story. I adored Arthur - I can really imagine him being real. He provided some really poignant and emotional moments for the book, particularly the parts highlighting his past, as well as his constant love and support for Teddy and his family. I enjoyed his relationship with Madeleine too - she is such a strong lady, and the kind of ally we all need. I can't think of any other story I've read with a coming out story for a character of his age, but it's one that needed to be told.
