About this deal

I thought this was a really good overview of how Max got to where he is today and a really good analysis of his driving style and how unique he is compared to other drivers.

A definitive and intriguing biography of Max Verstappen, Formula 1's superstar, Lewis Hamilton's great rival and the three-time winner of the World Drivers' Championship. Hughes has written a number of F1-related books: Speed Addicts won Best Illustrated Book at the 2006 British Sports Book Awards; Lewis Hamilton, The Full Story was released in 2008; and he co-authored Crashed And Byrned, which won the 2008 William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year. In the modern era he might have been fast-tracked into a driver academy or one of the larger teams with seats in various series. It was a sudden death situation, the like of which Formula One has never seen and may never see again. When Max won for the first time in Spain, Frans stood on the stage as his grandson sprayed champagne behind him, waving an enormous flag in celebration. Family life was not a struggle in the Verstappen household in the early years; Jos was making good money in F1, although he could have done without losing his drive after a contract holdout with Jordan that left him out in the cold once again.

It was a tremendous step up in pace for Jos, having only driven in F3 before jumping into the Footwork in 1993. The races would be shown on an enormous projector at the end of the room with memorabilia and sometimes a giant portrait of Max’s face sitting on the stage, more often host to a 8local band or an open mic night, next to the screen. At first I was annoyed at the fact that the beginning, once again, focussed more on Jos than on Max ( one of the things that annoyed me about the other book) but the balance between information about Max and information about those who surround him was a lot better. Please note: I am not responsible for any security weaknesses in WordPress, hosting provider or other technology I have no control over. Jos had a fourth child with partner Sijtsma on 4 May 2019, a boy named Jason Jaxx, and the four children regularly spend time together as a family. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, an increasingly animated figure as the year wore on, was straight on the radio to Masi.

From chapter 5 onwards, this is thankfully the case and there is above all a lot of coverage of his karting career, some of which I didn't know much about. Blurry VHS footage from the day of the 1994 Hungarian Grand Prix, in which Jos drove from twelfth on the grid to finish third while his Benetton teammate Michael Schumacher took the win, shows Frans being held aloft on the shoulders of some pub patrons who, from their pained expressions, look as though they might have underestimated his hefty frame. Already the youngest competitor in F1 history, his debut race for Red Bull at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix saw him become the youngest driver ever to win a race, achieve a podium finish or even lead a lap. It didn’t dive too deep but enough that it gave a whole picture of not only Max but his parents methods and RBR. Every Grand Prix live here at Opa Verstappens, free entry, everyone welcome,’ proclaims the sign outside Housmans, underneath which sits a replica of Max’s Red Bull Racing F1 car.Max’s response was an unintelligible cry of pure emotion, the kind that had not been building for just a few seconds, minutes or hours, but for a lifetime. It felt like the author wanted to take a dig on him through others and ends the book that way weirdly. Rapid single-seater gestation: only 12 months elapsed between his first single-seater experience, a Formula Renault evaluation at Pembrey in South Wales, and his F1 test-driving role with Scuderia Toro Rosso (Red Bull’s junior team) in 2014.

F1 is my new obsession and what got me through exam season and, as a birthday gift, I went and got the first f1 related book I saw and one of my friends recently read. He was dropped by Tyrrell for the simple reason that he was not fast enough and having tested back at Benetton, he was not given a contract because he could not raise the sponsorship. Now, F1 journalist Mark Hughes has released another biography of the triple world champion, “ Unstoppable“.Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. However as a native Dutch speaker i can see the translations of the dutch sources ( for example quotes of his mum ) are being done by a bot or google translate or so.
