Who was written off as a has-been by the end of the '80s and who suddenly shifted gears, releasing some of the strongest music of his career beginning in the late '90s. While three of the disk 2 pre-broadcast performances are of inferior technical quality, they are the best that could be obtained and will have to do until the master tapes are made available. Sony managed to obtain the rights to the HD-footage that was broadcast at Japanese national TV at the time. Now available for the very first time in stunning High-Definition 16:9 with remastered audio, this essential Blu-ray also features 40 minutes of previously unreleased bonus material including rehearsal footage, a look behind the scenes and interviews. The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition includes new notes by pop music historian Bill Flanagan. There aren't a lot of people that can attract a lineup like that, and everyone was on their best behavior. The bonus features are a bit on the light side: 3 standard-definition bonus tracks and a (interesting) behind-the-scenes featurette (that was already available on the Web) but I guess that's all that we could hope for.

The 2CD audio edition premieres two previously unreleased recordings from the concert’s sound check: Sinéad O’Connor singing “I Believe In You” and Eric Clapton’s interpretation of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright. After she finished the song, she went backstage, where she broke into tears and was comforted by Kristofferson.I’ve been a Dylan fan since the beginning, saw him in 1965, and 1966 when he did his electric tour and remained a devotee since then. As with all ‘celebration of’ concerts, your overall satisfaction will depend on whether you like the performing artists and their interpretation of a particular song. It lasted for a mammoth four hours and featured guests including George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Tom Petty and Johnny Cash and many more, all backed by the house band of Booker T and the MGs. Highlights of this event for me are Lou's incisive teleprompter take on Foot of Pride and Sinead's courage in actually bringing some protest to the celebration of my favorite finger-pointing song and dance man.Bringing together musical greats as far-flung as Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder, The Clancy Brothers and Lou Reed, the four hour show celebrated a truly remarkable lifetime of songs in front of a sold-out audience of over 18,000. Other than that slightly uncomfortable moment the evening passed with flying colours, smacking of a concert well put together resulting in an enjoyable night for all concerned. the In Memoriam on the back of the booklet is a sad reminder of who's left us since the event: Mr and Mrs Cash, Rick Danko, Donald "Duck" Dunn, George Harrison, Richie Havens, Levon Helm, Lou Reed and others . Providing musical backing throughout the show was an ensemble dream team featuring three members of Booker T. Viewed anew from a 20-year perspective, Bob Dylan – The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition is a remarkable testament to the enduring legacy and ongoing musical influence of Bob Dylan.
