There’s a story of a young lady who tries to find her oyibo soulmate on the streets of Lagos; another of a pastor’s wife who defends her husband from an allegation of adultery; a wife takes a knife to her husband’s penis; a night of lust between a rising musician and his Instagram baddie takes an unexpected turn. However, it was an interesting read and made me reflect on the nature of romantic relationships in this society. Could not for the life of me push through this book, way too many sex scenes that are completely unnecessary,random and forced. It sometimes made the transition from the end of one story to the beginning of another a bit jarring for me. This book depicts the hazards of attempting to find enduring love and friendship in Africa's wildest metropolis with humour, wisdom, and empathy that will prove universal and informative.At a point, the POVs switch to the males in the stories, but the message remains the same: Lagos men take stupidly selfish decisions regarding love and sex. What may be underreported in other reviews of this book, is the tendency of the fairer species to make terrible decisions where matters of the heart are concerned.

The men in this book are liars, cheats, scammers, and largely undeserving of the women in their lives. Short stories are always a good start to get off a reading slump or ease you out of the state that heavy books leave you in. I finished the first 4 stories and completely stopped on the 5th story because I didn't sign up for all that.Nearly All the Men in Lagos Are Mad is a collection of twelve short stories featuring characters with unique voices and stories that represent the diverse class, gender and ethnic melting pot that is Lagos. Albeit vividly describing women's experience with the dating scene in Lagos, we can map the events in this collection of short stories to the Swahili saying above and in any city for that matter, and we will have the same outcome.
