I hope Williams’s other novel is more light-hearted and warming because this one, sadly, to not live up to my expectations. I had assumed that there would be humorous scenes where she bumps into one man while on a date with another, and other romantic comedy situations, but this book only has one or two of these, and the tone was all off. The story follows how Penny finds herself in the middle of the love square, with all three men enjoying her company, and wanting varying levels of commitment from Penny. Sorry but the audacity of Francesco to go on this massive shouting rant at Penny for no reason saying she’s messing with people’s emotions and she needs therapy and she’s heartless? It was nice, though, that all the missteps she took throughout the story forced her to figure out what to do with her life and what her truth was.

MariChameleon is a mix that allows both halves to be open, without being worried about being judged. The story follows Penny Bridge, a café owner in London who temporarily moves to Derbyshire to run her uncle’s pub in Derbyshire.Clever, hilarious and a total unbridled joy to read, get it now or prepare for the impending FOMO this summer when everyone else is talking about this brilliant book. I wasn't looking for a likeable character (even though it's chick lit, and that's what we always get with chick lit), but I was looking for someone I could understand and feel for. That old adage about buses comes to mind with this story; Penny waits ages for the right man to come along and then suddenly finds herself with three potential boyfriends – typical! This specific setting has created hundreds of canon episodes and thousands of fanworks in which two people unknowingly mutually in love still pine for each other, reject each other for themselves, and create a lot of enjoyable and completely avoidable angst.

That reminds me of a mortifying moment that happened right before I fell asleep - I wonder what happened between the two guys that tried to hold me hand but they ended up touching each other's hands. The relationship felt real filled with real life problems and emotions, anger, confusion, embarrassment.
