Since I kept hearing that Encre Noire a l’Extreme is quite close to Sycomore, especially the new EDP version of the Chanel fragrance, I blind bought it in the hopes that it could serve as a substitute. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand. It just feels like the cypress clashes too much with the creamyish facets of the sandalwood and orris. Probably not the first thing you should get, but if you’re a bit bored of your usual dna, this is a pretty great thing to expand your horizon with.
