About this deal

This book is that perfect combination of imagination, whimsy and a sense of myth grounded in reality. Highly recommended, to all fellow Fan Brothers fans, to anyone who appreciates beautiful picture-books, and to anyone looking for children's stories about loss, grief, and the places our dreams can take us. All of my rambling above is a way for me to say that I loved the way this book looked, and the way it handled the gentle reflections of a loved one. The Washington Post From the creators of the gorgeous bestseller The Night Gardener comes a stunning new picture book about a young boy who sets sail to find a place his grandfather told him about.

Each stage of the journey is beautifully illustrated in serene, glowing colours, full of detail and delight. Here they follow the story of Finn, a young boy who is missing his (presumably deceased) grandfather. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! That is, I was frustrated until I began to slowly but surely realise and understand that first and foremost Ocean Meets Sky is obviously meant to be a mostly illustrative journey, that it is almost totally picture oriented, with the accompanying text providing in my opinion simply a bit of supplemental verbal guidance. This beautiful and poignant story has stunning illustrations throughout and explores themes of family, memory and loss. Born in Hawaii and raised in Toronto, he attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, where he studied illustration, sculpture and f? Upon waking he finds himself sailing to that mysterious place his grandfather told him about where the ocean meets the sky. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!

Picked up this Beautiful Gem at my local library last week for my daughter and just realized its up for a Goodreads Choice Award! It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. So I thought it was nice and comforting that Finn could travel to an amazing, fantastical place his grandfather told him about to tell him goodbye. The sweet and uplifting narrative retellings of these positive stories make the perfect bedtime read for eco-anxious kids, and provide parents with concrete examples to assuage worries about nature, the climate and the future.

Together they also illustrated The Darkest Dark, written by Chris Hadfield and Kate Fillion, and The Antlered Ship, written by Dashka Slater. Although I have enjoyed everything this talented pair have produced, from the aforementioned The Night Gardener, which they both wrote and illustrated, to The Antlered Ship, which they illustrated for author Dashka Slater, I think Ocean Meets Sky is the Fan Brothers' best work yet! Finn remembers the stories his grandfather told him about – a place where the ocean meets the sky, where whales and jellyfish soar and birds and castles float.

I don't like seeing stuff like that in children's books, since many kids absorb a lot of grammar lessons simply by reading. The great golden fish, though, I found a bit terrifying; he acts as Finn's guide, so he's kind of a necessary part of the story, but I'm not sure how he'd go over with little kids. I think the best way I can describe my belief in the Fan Brothers as author/illustrators might be to show you the video of my multiple purchases of their most recent book, Ocean Meets Sky. The story is an ambitious blend of light and heavy, realistic and dreamy: it concerns a small boy, Finn, whose grandfather has recently passed away in his old age. Beautiful graphite and digitally colored illustrations, which are realistic and exquisitely executed and detailed.Finn and the fish visit the Library Islands where birds wear top hats, an island of truly giant shells, a sea full of dancing jellyfish, and then they are there. The Fan Brothers are significant, award-winning author-illustrators and children can continue to enjoy their books following their studies of this text.

From the creators of the gorgeous bestseller "The Night Gardener" comes a stunning new picture book about a young boy who sets sail to find a place his grandfather told him aboutEthe spot where the ocean meets the sky. The reader can clearly see how much Finn and his grandfather loved each other, even if the grandfather isn't even present in most of the book.

The writing is fairly sparse, which makes me a bit annoyed that it couldn't have been polished to perfection. The artwork here is breathtakingly beautiful, and there are multiple two-page spreads I would happily hang on my wall, if they were available as prints or posters. Thereafter, what will we discover alongside Finn when we awaken to the lull of the journey, the swell of the waves? The little boy's fantastic dream takes him past stacks of books, giant sea shells, a blue whale, jellyfish, and many other things. A little boy builds a ship to honor his late grandfather and sets sail for the magical place where ocean meets sky from his grandfather's story.
