About this deal

I don't care about the angst caused by his fellow man, because from what I see so far, the protag will be a doormat character. The last two thirds of the book are still packed with world building, but also some incredibly epic fight scenes.

Things change as she approaches her 17th year when Lilitha demands the ascension moved up leaving Kaleah shocked and refusing to due to the assassination on her life.

Not only that, some people used it against Tarko's dad and subsequently sent his family plummeting down the branches. For my second warband I might be able to stretch and kitbash some Spined demons to try out those rules too, but maybe having less rules to learn in game one, won’t be such a bad thing. I went with some colour for his under armour cloth with Orcflesh Green Contrast and a Deathguard Green highlight.

The story is good aswell, while it is definitely very slow at the start, the book takes that time to build up character and world. I do have to say a few things don't make sense and come way too abruptly, and while it is easy disgard it due to how good the book is overall, I do feel it necessary to address. For someone who wanted very badly to keep the demon in his head a secret or risk major consequences, he sure did talk to ‘himself” A LOT, out loud, where other people could hear him. The demons right hand was glued in place, but the left hand was built into the haft of the axe and was a whole cm past his left wrist, just floating. He’s not an asshole, but he does start to get a bigger head as his powers settle in and he gets used to wielding them.Bit of Mephiston Red highlighting and a tidy up on the armour above the wings and she’s good to go… Probably to go do bad. The book made me care for Kaleah's character, and feel bad for her having to carry such a big burden as giving up her life voluntarily at such a young age. That is until demons from a broken world invade the forest realm of The Swathe, and an accident born of violence and dark magic intertwines Tarkosi’s fate with the greatest among them.

The Goddess Lilitha agreed to wait so that Kaleah can train to fight to protect herself, but with the condition she gets to know her intended and on her seventeen birthday they will be bonded. The other characters are great - mainly because most of them are a little older than me (I'm late 30s), which made the novel more realistic than a bunch of twenty years olds commanding battles. I was honestly shocked at how much I loved book one of this series and how much I immediately needed book two.

There is however one less solid thing about the story, and that is the thing that sets it into motion. This mini was given to me built incorrectly, but I think that’s forgivable because they were gifted to me and I think they had been assembled by the guy when he was a child.

I enjoyed the story it wasn't fast paced, but it was a easy read and the plot really explains itself without being a cliche as you read from beginning to end. Unfortunately the book ended on a cliffhanger, as many books do, which was fine, but my main issue with it was how abruptly it ended. There are 6 classes of demon but I only feel my minis tick the boxes for Armoured demons and Slaughter Fiends at the moment. The part of the book that strikes out to me the most is the fantastic world building in this novel, it's really cool to read about a culture entirely based on living in/around a tree, and clear the authors have put a lot of thought into it and the lore of the world. I am going to get the Frostgrave Demons wings from NorthStar as I couldn’t think of an easy way to do them myself and I think I would benefit from some when I get around to playing The Red King Expansion.

The trouble is… Some of them know how they broke the portal and thus… Could give the Earthbound some clues on how to reopen it. It was hard to wrap around some of the terms being used because I had not heard them used that way but after all the in-depth world building I really enjoyed this book.
