This is a well designed box of half pans, with a good open and close mechanism, unlike several other brands which seem to have very cheap catches on their boxes which I assume will not last well. If using a six colour mixing system we would recommend Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Ultramarine, Intense Blue, Permanent Rose and Cadmium Red Hue.

As water colour films are so thin all colours appear more or less transparent when painted onto paper. Since the greatest expense comes from the source pigments, the more expensive of these are substituted with alternatives to create hues that still provide high tinting strength and transparency.
