All Brothers sewing machines come with the smart drop-in bobbin system, which not only makes it easy to change bobbins, but also runs smoothly and silently (even at high speed). I could only imagine those leaving lesser favourite reviews were not using the machine correctly as yes you are required to use different sewing feet and needles for different fabrics and have a play about with the tensio.

Any useful information or input may help the next person to read this review come to a decision as to whether it is the right sewing machine for them. In terms of stitch length and width, the Brother FS40 has a maximum stitch length of 7mm and width of 4mm. Consequently, if your sewing consists of a lot of upholstery work it is worth mentioning that you will struggle with heavy materials. That been said, with the correct needle you will have no problem tackling several layers of material. There are many times when this could come in handy, especially for the less experienced sewer working on a particular tricky part of a project.
