About this deal

The Concise Home and Insect Killer 40W is a great alternative to my Sahara Sailor Mosquito Killer Lamp should it not be available for some reason. They use a UV light source to lure flies onto an electrified grid, giving them a quick electric shock and killing them instantly. Generally, a single good quality 15W UV bulb will cover around 40m², although be aware this can change depending on the design of the fly killer, how bright the room is, and where you place the unit.

I’ve used this for just over a year now, so I thought it was time to give an update on what I think so far. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. The truth is, these traps only takes care of the flying adult flies around, but not the breeding sources, and often found in grease traps and corners of the kitchen. Overall, I think I have tested a few models, but I’m a fan of both the BUGZILLA Electric Bug and Fly Zapper for getting rid of house flies and this Sahara Sailor Mosquito Killer Lamp for killing the mosquitos indoors and outdoors. As it has no way to catch the dead flies, I usually just leave a piece of kitchen roll underneath it and then dispose of them the following morning. This effectively reduces the volume of flies before they have the opportunity to enter your premises or to breed. When I say I use it like the mains-powered electric fly killer, what I mean is that I can place it in its stand and leave it on constantly. With models like this, which I have, I simply plug them into a smart plug and set them to come on in the evening when they are likely to prove the most effective. According to the Delaware study, the zapped bugs include “many thousands of nontarget insects representing a rich taxonomic diversity.

That being said, I have actually seen blue bottles before now get zapped, drop to the floor, and then all of sudden, take off again. This is because the mercury phosphor – the thing inside the bulb that actually emits UV rays – degrades quickly, and will likely be gone inside a year. While there are a number of ways of dealing with these pesky germ carriers, including installing a fly screen, there are few solutions as effective as an electric fly killer. Notice that most of the time when you’re trying to catch flies and other flying insects you only end up missing and hitting the air. They are ineffective against mosquitoes and other biting flies, and their otherwise indiscriminate killing can disrupt pollination and generally throw the environment out of balance. To go a step further, many workplaces and commercial facilities now have installed ongoing solutions against flies.

The mean number of flies attracted per trap pair was significantly greater in treatment 1 than in treatments 2 or 3. This translates to a big reduction in the risk of contamination and potential spread of disease than when using an electric grid unit in food preparation areas. A single LED can last for over 20,000 hours, giving you a fly killer that barely needs to be maintained even after years of use. There are two variants of fly traps that utilise UV light, with different methods of killing or capturing the flies. But with the possibility of bug zappers creating voids in the food chain, the authors of the University of Delaware study express concern for bats and nighthawks, both of which survive by eating insects nocturnally. If that wasn’t bad enough, they’ll also carry germs from one place to another, so if they’ve been walking in animal faeces, they’ll track all that bacteria into your home. They have been nine years in the making, with over 15,000 tests conducted on more than 1,200 prototypes to achieve fly catch performance that exceeds or matches its fluorescent counterparts.
