Erase and Protect Features Erasing and protecting images can be done in various modes: Single Image, Selection of Images, by Date, by Folder and by AVCHD format. Strangely there’s barely any difference in file size regardless of which setting you choose, indicating a possible firmware bug. megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and 20x optical zoom lens, a 35mm equivalent of 25-500mm, and can be extended to 40x with Clear Image Zoom.
Once again, the design of this has been carefully considered and it’s flush mounted in a dished recess, making it easy to operate when you want to, but not by accident. The one thing Sony did remove from the wx300 I wish they kept was the ability to take photos in video mode. Still, it’s only a fraction of a second slower than most compacts, and the DSC-WX350 makes up for lost time by focussing fast, not only in good light but also when the going gets dim.The difference isn’t huge, and the SX600 HS is bigger and heavier, so the WX350 lets you have your cake and eat it – a longer zoom in a smaller, lighter body. resolution, and has Lock-On AF, which provides the ability to focus on multiple points with subject recognition to keep your subject in sharp focus even when in motion. This gets Sony’s Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation system to compensate for camera shake in low light or when zooming in to the max. Small cameras are often fiddly to operate, I never found that a problem with the WX350, but it might be an issue if you’ve got big hands. Keeping things steady when zoomed in to a 500mm focal length is a challenge even for those with steady hands.
If you’re after something more spectacular, you’d be better off manually snapping adjacent overlapping images and stitching them on a computer with additional software. I'm mentioning it straight away: The highest feeling of manual control with this little camera is with it's 'P'-mode, where you can control the ISO sensitivity, apply some Expose Value, play with some filters and that's about it. I have used for a few days the previous model (WX300) which cs with a very beautiful leather case too. When you display the contents of the camera card on an iOS device they’re categorized by date which makes finding what you’re looking for easier than scrolling through a forest of thumbnails. Its panorama modes are versatile, allowing you to shoot in portrait or landscape orientation in either direction and the results are excellent.
The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS isn’t a large compact by any standards – except of course those newly defined by the Sony WX350. But remember, 40x is at the extreme - even with a dslr, atmospheric distortion also comes into play.
There’s no way to manually activate macro focussing either, but that’s no big deal as in all three automatic modes the camera reliably detects a close-up subject and focuses correctly without you intervening.
