About this deal

Just funny how two people can take the same piece of writing and take totally different things away from it! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this in advance in exchange for an honest review. I did like Kristoff’s penchant for smooshing words together (knifebright, daysdeath, silversteel… twatgoblin). Even knowing that Gabriel survived these ordeals (obviously, he is telling his story, after all) doesn’t diminish the intensity of the conflicts.

During the battle, Laure taunts Gabriel with the knowledge she destroyed his village and killed his family; enraged, Gabriel slays her using his bloodgift while his comrades trigger an avalanche that destroys the approaching vampire army.Patience is rewarded in spades, and Kristoff's hyper-approachable and readable writing style makes what could have been a very dry plot into something vibrant and devourable. I am a fan of framing narratives; seeing how the details of the legends explored and achieved often felt satisfying to me.

We still have some of the best stuff from first: Gabe and Dior's complex relationship, deep world building, bloody action all over the place, underdog characters you just can't help but root for, villains you want to behead yourself, and a little humor to light the gritty world we're transported to. This may not have been the decision you might have made, but to me, I didn’t feel comfortable supporting Jay Kristoff and effectively promoting his work to help him sell more. After turning his back on his silversaint brothers once and for all, Gabriel and the Grail set out to learn the truth of how Daysdeath might finally be undone. Where Gabe might be a bit confused with a character like Geralt in book 1, it's pretty hard to deny he's a petty pain in the ass in Empire of the Damned.

This book focuses first and foremost on the complicated and twisted world of the Vampire threat, Particularly how it has affected enslaved Thralls.

I mentioned at the beginning of this review that I experienced both hell and heaven reading this book. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. It's near impossible to say more without revealing crucial plot developments and introducing new central characters.

The annoying thing is – Empire of the Vampire is still living rent-free in my head and I cannot wait until the dang sequel is released!

I am eagerly waiting for the second book in the trilogy, which I think will top Empire of the Vampire in every possible way.
