About this deal

As a result, they are very precious to us and we ask that anyone making use of them does so with respect. If you are interested in using part of our liturgy on a regular basis in public worship, we produce a range of extracts from Celtic Daily Prayer printed on high quality trifold A4 cards and A5 booklets for the purpose and ask that you purchase supplies of these rather than producing your own as these liturgies are copyright to Northumbria Community, and we derive a significant part of our income from the sale of resources. Topics include reaching adulthood/mid-life/old-age; renewal of a marriage; the summer solstice; living with pain; blessing a garden; Christmas preparation; after an argument; scattering ashes; studying; peace; the 'father wound'; loyalty and sleep, among many, many others. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Some find it helpful to make a point of saying it whilst moving around (whilst preparing lunch for instance) as a reminder to pray as we work and work as we pray.

This is a resource you will want to come back to, and so I am going to minimize my own words today, encouraging you instead to dive deep into the Northumbria Community and experience all the Spirit has for you through them. The Daily Office – Morning, Midday and Evening Prayer – is at the core of the life of the Northumbria Community.

The main part of the book consists of thoughts, prayers and readings for the morning and the evening of every day of the year, as well as liturgies for both normal and special occasions. The words of this blessing are said, or sung, as part of the Morning Prayer of the Northumbria Community. Morning, Midday or Evening Prayer, and the Complines (‘end of the day’ prayers) can be accessed from the Pray the Daily Office links at the top of this page or in paper form using the Celtic Daily Prayer Book 1: The Journey Begins and Celtic Daily Prayer Book 2: Farther Up and Farther In. Building on the foundations set down in the first volume, this new collection blends the voices of the early Celtic and desert saints with more contemporary sources in ways that continue to speak to us in our own generation and culture. I am tempted to dissect a copy and scan it into several PDF files to make it more manageable for daily travel ~ (maybe on a monthly or seasonal basis) - Unfortunately it is not offered in any e-formats of PDF or Kindle versions to my knowlege. We have used it as a family around the table, as a church for weekend retreats, as well as for personal prayer times.

All short, beautiful prayers in the Celtic tradition, rich in scripture, but easily accessible to all. Having this e-version makes life so much easier whenever I go away, and also means that my physical copies won’t fall apart. Others find it a welcome opportunity to withdraw from the tensions and busyness of the day to spend some time quiet and alone with God, putting the day’s work into a different perspective.

Our lives are usually too full of noise, so this is the ideal moment of the day to experience real silence. The Northumbria Community is a dispersed network of people, hugely diverse, from different backgrounds, streams and edges of the Christian faith, united in their desire to embrace and express an ongoing exploration into a new way for living.

Both volumes of Celtic Daily Prayer are a complex mixture of writing original to Northumbria Community, along with some third party and out-of-copyright material, and so we thought it would help to offer some guidelines to simplify the process of seeking permission to use the material they contain. This consists of the liturgy for Morning, Midday and Evening Prayer and a set of 31 daily meditations from sources that are important to the Community’s foundation and ethos. Celtic Daily Prayer is also available as an INTERACTIVE E-BOOK published by HarperCollins and available for a variety of devices.the Kindle Celtic Daily Prayer has been great as we have shared it so we can all see the same morning prayer page. At Nether Springs, the mother house of the Community, the Office is said or sung at set times in the chapel; when Companions in the Community meet together, saying the Office can be a routine part of the meeting; and individuals and families can use it in their homes as part of daily life. In the meantime, I'm tempted to take them out and laminate them for daily use, saving the rest of the book for their fascinating, inspiring readings. Much of the writings and daily devotionals bring deeper communion with God with challenging questions.
