About this deal

Bizarrely the Artists proof version of a flayed one is actually a different sculpt to the painted version. As I walked into Warhammer Chesterfield last week, there were as many Gold Label Warhammer models available as there was everything else (on day of release). As a separate line within the McFarlane ecosystem, they offer models under the branding – “Gold Label Collection”. I could regurgitate all of Mcfarlane’s mumbo-jumbo or you can just read it here. Firstly, this one actually is limited, but not only in availability, but also how you even get your hands on these models.

Once again, not as hulking or armour-clad as your tabletop Meganobz, but as they are a rank & file model, I’m not too fussed. they look good. That is literally the only difference on this box vs the McFarlane Adepta Sororitas Battle Sister. Seriously, even the barcode is the same. And now comes the time when I explain how you can get this variant.

The Witcher

If you serve the will of the Hive Mind, there’s no better way to prove it than with this fearsome Genestealer action figure. It comes pre-painted in the colours of Hive Fleet Leviathan, and this beastie looks ready to tear anything in its way to pieces. Ymgarl Genestealer – Artist’s Proof My heartfelt opinion at this stage is “meh”, but again, I’m going to buy them all anyway and so are many of you. McFarlane Warhammer Figures – Wave 4 The Warhammer 40,000 action figures from McFarlane Toys, some of which we previewed last year , are a great way to enjoy a piece of your favourite hobby at a much larger scale than regular miniatures. Due to their size, they’re also a perfect canvas for really flexing your painting skills, just like Louise Sugden did with her Space Marine. Once we’d seen the fantastic job she did, we couldn’t help but ask for a few words about how she went about it. Really looking forward to seeing these ones painted up by some of you pro’s out there. Warhammer McFarlane Big Mek When it comes to painting your models, the Artists proof versions matter very little. You can paint an already painted model just as easily. McFarlane Warhammer Figures – Gold Label Collection

This particular model doesn’t even have the grotesque grim darkyness of the new Flayed ones from Pariah NexusOther than that the proportions of the marine look pretty spot on. Though the Pistol and the Chain Sword look a bit small they actually look good when he’s holding them. It’s almost like Mcfarlane found out that JoyToy were also making Reivers and so figured, we’ll if they are doing it with their quality level. we probably shouldn’t even bother trying too hard. Ultramarine Reiver – Artists Proof The BigMek is a trash-beast of a model when compared to your standard infantry, the throw-together Space Marine suit. The sculpt of this model has gone full Blood Angel – with about as much effort put in as GW put into their faction-specific upgrade sprues. Yes, that’s a mouthful. for more on the Platinum Collection see the top of this article in case you skipped it.

What is it about third parties and Aquilas? (the Chest Wings). Why can’t anyone get them to match the dimensions we already have? GW has the 3d Model of A Space Marine chest, just use that. This is one part of the model that puts me off. Why couldn’t they just make it the same but bigger! If you’re feeling especially outlandish, the Artist’s Proof version represents one of the infamous Ymgarl Genestealers, complete with the tell-tale combination of scything talons and feeder tendrils. As a blank canvas, you can paint your action figure in the colours of your Hive Fleet of choice. The Gauss Flayer looks like it has warped along the barrel, but this is something I’m used to with McFarlane Models as the plastic/resin is quite soft and bendy Once this stage was done, it was time to add weathering to the model. I used Rhinox Hide for most of this process, first adding a more watered-down mix with a brush to some of the deeper recesses of the miniature, then dragging that mix down in areas to create dirty drips.

Pacific Rim

With so many Factions available across the 40k ecosystem, I’m sure that absolutely nobody was looking at this range screaming, we want more Necron action figures. I think I’d really have liked to see this have a swappable head, one with an actual face. But hey, maybe that’s just me? McFarlane Gold Label Blood Angel’s Lieutenant When adding chipping to one of the painted decal areas like the shield, shoulder, or knee, I applied the same ‘dry sponge’ method, but instead of Rhinox Hide I used some Macragge Blue , as this is the colour of the base plastic and will give the effect of exposed ceramite under the decal.

This programme is also subject to abuse and confusion. Sure most specialist toy stores probably get the newsletter from Mcfarlane explaining what this line is. But larger companies, how would they communicate this down to the staff. It’s billed to be a highly limited range of models spread amongst the existing lines. every so often an existing series may be accompanied by a Gold label model. Due to the Tabbard, this sister does not look quite as posable as the Ultramarine, In Fact, the only real difference between the two promo shots is that one is pointing the Bolter up and the other is pointing it downward.Hey Siege Studios! Can we have an action Figure category at next year’s IronSkull? (Help me out everyone, go ask them to do it) McFarlane Warhammer Figures – Wave 2 McFarlane Blood Angel Hellblaster Though most of these are identical to an equivalent painted model, there are a couple with changes (essentially to de-faction) shown below.
