About this deal

He is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts, holds a Foundation Degree in Equitation Science and is a Master of Arts in Publishing. The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens has a fairly generously sized focus ring, which is ridged for easier grip. There are no hard stops at the ends of the range, making it harder to set focus at infinity. Polariser users should be pleased that the more economical 67mm filter thread doesn't rotate on focus. Looking at the gallery shots, I think that the evaluation of cross-frame sharpness given in the video is a little harsh. The lens actually performs pretty well for sharpness out to the edges at all focal lengths even at f2.8. I think the results from the flat test subject at fairly close-range were probably affected by curvature of field. Metabones Speed boosters are for crop cameras, and they didn't get PDAF focusing capability until 2015, so it was useless on Sony FE mount. The a7r/a7s were CDAF-only, so they didn't work with any autofocus adapter other than the laea4, that had it's own SLT af system.

Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Review | Photography Blog

The tradeoff of 4mm on the wide end seems to make the difference. This an extremely attractive lens for any photographer wanting a solid lens for carrying around in long stretches and combined with an interesting optical signature, this is a very practical lens for general use. Autofocus Sharpness drops off a little at the corners on the wide end at F2.8, but stopping down to F5.6 gives a relatively flat field of focus and improved corner sharpness. That said, focusing in the corner yields higher corner sharpness than focusing in the center and stopping down, indicating a curved field of focus. Focusing in the corner and stopping down yields even better corner sharpness, as expected. The not-so-flat field of focus, at least in part, contributes to the peripheral softness when focusing centrally. One of the lens’s biggest features is the stabilization, which, when used with Dual IS 2.0 on the Panasonic S1 and S1R, is good for up to a staggering 7 stops of stabilization. Combined with the bright f/2.8 constant aperture, the S Pro 70-200mm should be a low light beast.Do you need the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 Art? Probably not, but you’re going to want it. It’s a lens worth showing off and, considering the f/1.2 aperture, is also reasonably priced relative to the f/1.4 competition. Compared to its main rival, the popular Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III RXD, the new Sigma 28-70mm also has the edge, with the Tamron measuring almost 12cms in length and weighing in at 550g. I love how the overdubbing made the outdoor portion seem lije the old Kung Fu movies where the lips didnt sync with the dialog. Ahhh, nostalgia...

Why keep rehashing the same boring 70-200mm FL? As a 3rd party lens maker, how about something that differentiate you from the competitors like a 50-250 F2.8 sports lens? Photos are sharper in the middle and than they are at the corners, but if you're not looking for perfection you can save yourself a fair amount of money. There is some barrel distortion that you would expect from a zoom lens, but it's easy enough to correct in post-processing. Sigma is now one of the very few imaging manufacturers whose products are solely made in Japan ④. This gives us full control over our production processes and helps us maintain the highest levels of quality control over the design, manufacture and construction of every product. Great care is taken to ensure the highest quality materials are chosen. It's aimed at photographers and videographers who want a bright walkaround zoom and the bokeh possibilities that a wide aperture brings but who don't want the size, weight and cost typical of many F2.8 zooms. Travel and landscape photographers in particular will find its modest size and weight appealing, and it also offers potential as a portrait lens or for video capture. Sure, it has some caveats in the image quality department. Most notably, corner sharpness isn't stellar at telephoto while wide-open; close-up telephoto shots wide open can have a soft dreamy look , and it's also quite prone to cat's eye bokeh effect. But honestly, depending on your subjects, those may not be major concerns for you. And image quality is otherwise solid, with very good sharpness across much of the focal range, pleasing bokeh, and good resistance to aberrations and ghosting. And since it is so lightweight, balance is very good. Regardless of the mount variant you choose, it shouldn't feel front-heavy on any body you might want to pair it with. Strange! The dubbed into produced some kind of Brechtian effect that lasted the whole clip beyond the dubbed part. Chris acting was suddenly obvious and the whole video had that alienated feel. The Sigma 24-70DN utilizes a stepping focus motor (STM) that makes fast, quiet focus changes. If you watch the video review you can see/hear the focus motor during focus changes in video. It’s all good news, though, as the focus is quiet, focus pulls are accurate and smooth, and there is little to no hunting or settling. I saw minimal focus breathing during focus pulls on the wide end, though you can see a bit of size changing at the telephoto end. Nothing extreme, though.
