I've been doing a lot of soul-searching lately & I am hoping to gain some knowledge from reading this book.

You were created for a unique role on earth (that no one else can fill). Every Christian (not just the pastors, priests and clergy) is called to God’s service (your Ministry). You serve Him by using your God-given abilities to help others. This is a full-time commitment, not something you do in your free time. Earth is not heaven.” ~ This is one of the quotes that I really like in your book. We are experiencing pain because we are not home yet. God’s ultimate goal for our lives on earth is not comfort, but character development. Pain is vital because God uses it so we can mature and grow like Christ. God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life- longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of eternity. We’re not completely happy here because we are not supposed to be. Earth is not our final home and we were created for something much better.

There are at least fifty similar examples where the author uses Scripture outside of its context or assigns a foreign meaning. When Scripture is not used in the way God intends, this sort of inconsistency is inevitable. Warren’s ongoing abuse of Scripture is my primary concern with his ministry. Just as we would doubt the love of a husband who abuses his wife, so we must wonder at Warren’s love of Scripture if he is so willing to abuse it. I have read this book three times and it was one of my favorite books. You know what, I read it in the Bible and then I read it again when I was going through divorce and then I read it a third time when I was going through some rough times. I for one, have been transformed by this book and would suggest it to anyone, who is looking for answers. Ultimately, the Bible is the number one book on truth. However, The purpose Driven, is equally impactive, and really gets you to think about....Life, the Love of God and the relationship you could have with him, even, what your purpose could be as an individual. It does not preach to you, but talks to you with reason. Allows you to discover ' whose you really are' Without condemnation, but touches you lovingly and wants you to listen, be still and know that God is real and is just waiting for you to open your eyes to truth. Would you consider yourself a member or spectator at your church? Explain why. (For example, you consider yourself a spectator because you regularly go to church and attend the after-service coffee hour, but you don’t interact with your church during the week.)

I am a Christian and Scriptures are food to me and believe me ladies and gentlemen, my fellow readers, I am filled and satisfied every time I read a scripture.

Thank you for reminding me that God has emotions too. He can feel our pain and sufferings. He feels angry too. And He smiles and laughs whenever we did something that is pleasing for Him. Thank you for also pointing out that we shouldn’t focus on ourselves, sulking in self-pity but rather, we should start helping other people by our God-given abilities and pleasing God. You build meaningful relationships with the members of your spiritual family when you’re a member of your church, not a spectator. Rather than being spread among too many goals or ideas, your energy becomes solely purpose-focused—making you more effective in what you do. Your third purpose is to become more like Jesus Christ—not to be a god, but to become godly through your actions and character. Humans are the only beings made in God’s image: we have immortal spirits, the intellectual ability to reason, the capacity to love, and the ability to know right from wrong. Your time on earth is meant to shape you and prepare you for eternity in Heaven. This involves more than prayer and Bible study; you must also practice Christ-like thinking/acting and develop new godly habits. God wants you to serve others—this is called ministry, the fourth purpose for your life. The way God planned for you to serve others is uniquely yours.

I love how he reinforces this with scriptures and other materials. I highly recommend this to anyone who is wondering about their purpose here on earth. You show his glory each time you fulfill one of the five purposes he assigned you: worship, unselfish fellowship, spiritual maturity, your ministry, and your mission. Purpose #1: Worship (Week 2)
