Allan, S., Gilbert, P. & Goss, K. (1994). An exploration of shame measures: II: Psychopathology. Personality and Individual Differences, 17, 719-722. This introductory training is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the foundations of Compassion Focused Therapy. A really refreshing look at very simple concepts with interwoven complexities, and how we can all seek to better know and understand ourselves.

Compassion Focused Therapy Training Pathway - Paul Gilbert

a b Leaviss, J; Uttley, L (2015). "Psychotherapeutic benefits of compassion-focused therapy: an early systematic review". Psychological Medicine. 45 (5): 927–945. doi: 10.1017/S0033291714002141. PMC 4413786. PMID 25215860. A lot of the science in the book was something I found quite interesting. For example the fact that aside from the threat and excitement system, animals also have a soothing/contentment system which basically means they don't worry when there is nothing to specifically worry about. Humans spend little time in this zone because we are wired to think about threat all the time - much more so than anything pleasurable. Learning about this helped me feel less frustrated about myself and more normal when I'm being a 'worrywart'. Eradicating bad feelings can never be the end goal as they are part of our basic make-up and serve a purpose, but we can be kinder to ourselves about feeling them. Social Research: An International Quarterly of the Social Sciences 70, 1205-1230For the casual reader it is much too long and detailed and I think, that no matter what category of reader you are it is painfully repetitive. It was not an enjoyable book to listen too and now that I have finished it I cannot think of any particular new of exciting insights I gained from it.

An exploration of shame, social rank and rumination in relation to depression. Personality and Individual Differences, 36, 1143-1153. Yes, it is long, but I treated the reading experience like an occasional digging through the massive tool box (treasure chest, really) of a seasoned therapist, trying out an exercise or two as I went a long and making note of what worked for me. Contentment, soothing and affiliative system: enables state of peacefulness when individuals are no longer focused on threats or seeking out resources (allows body to rest and digest and have open attention). [8] Supervisor training is designed for therapists who are already experienced psychotherapists/counsellors and may already be providing clinical supervision, or are looking to develop as clinical supervisors. This training is for people who have completed an introductory training, and ideally, advanced clinical skills

Gilbert, Paul; Simos, Gregoris (2022). Compassion Focused Therapy: Clinical Practice and Applications. It talks about our under developed self soothing system in the west, which is exacerbated if you were not given a lot of this in your early years. It divides systems into three (for the sake of simplicity) Threat system, Drive system, Soothing system... If you stop and take note of your thoughts and emotions, a lot of these fall into Threat or Drive, so the task is to build upon the soothing. This ten-month course has been developed to meet the growing interest, research, and practice of CFT. We are uniquely privileged to have developed this course with Professor Paul Gilbert OBE, the founder of Compassion Focused Therapy and founder and President of The Compassionate Mind Foundation. Paul is an internationally renowned clinical psychologist, and leading researcher and practitioner in the area of compassion. He has been actively involved in research and treatment for people facing a wide range of life difficulties, working in both clinical and non-clinical settings, for over 45 years. During this time, he has also provided training for therapists in many countries worldwide. If anyone wants to borrow this I'm happy to give you it 😊 it's a book I'd definitely recommend to give more understanding of how the mind works and how to be more compassionate to yourself
